Radeon Xpress 200m help...

hi...pls bare with me for i am new in this forum and this will be my first post.. plus, i hope i could explain myself clear enough for im not much a computer wiz...

well, my problem is... with my default display driver or default drivers (meaning just the ones Toshiba provided me), counter strike v.1.6 runs with its max fps... like 99-90+ fps regularly... not until i've tried experimenting using driver updates... first i've tried using omega drivers since it was suggested by alot of people in some other forum place but unfortunately, i didnt find any difference at all while playing another game which is Fable... so i search the net and came accross to this site which provides a modder tool for modding ati drivers and catalyst... i then decided using catalyst 9.3 package (which i believe the latest catalyst and has the latest driver for my chipset, if not pls tell me)... well i've noticed a slight boost on my fable game and also with my psx emulator games as well... on the other hand, when i tried playing counter strike v.1.6 again, the fps drops down to like 50-90+... so i decided to remove the moded driver and catalyst and decided to get the old but compatible one from toshiba (2006 version of driver and catalyst) with the thought of raising the fps max of my counter strike game... unfortunately, there seem no difference at all... fps was down to 50+ which is slow...wonder what the problem is... pls help

p.s before installing new drivers, i made sure i've uninstalled the old ones...
plus, just a question, does all the catalyst settings still apply even though you choose to close it or end it running from your task manager?

Re: Radeon Xpress 200m help...

How did you uninstall the old drivers? And what is the graphics chipset your system is equiped with? . . . Or even a laptop model number would help.

Worst case scenerio, you could always wipe the system, but it sounds like you just need to do a proper cleaning of the currently installed drivers and then reinstall the old ones.

To delete the drivers completely off of your system, run the unistall utility in Add/Remove Programs (XP) or Programs and Features (Vista).

After they are "uninstalled", boot into Safe Mode - Command Line, once logged in, prefrom the following commands:

at the C:\......> prompt:

cd\ {enter key}
erase C:\windows\system32\ati*.* {enter key}
erase C:\Windows\System32\drivers\ati*.* {enter key}
erase c:\windows\prefetch\ati*.pf {enter key}

Once those are completed . . .

C:\windows\system32\regedit.exe {enter key}

The Registry Editor will be pulled up over top the command line window.

In the right hand plane, navigate to SOFTWARE in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE delete the entire ATI Tech key tree by selecting the ATI Technologies folder in the right hand plane and pressing the delete key. Do this again for ATI Tech variant folder names. (such as ATI Technologies Inc.)

You will need to naviagte to SOFTWARE in HKEY_CURRENT_USER and do this again.

Once this is completed, close regedit, and at the command prompt type:
shutdown -r -t 0 and press enter. Your computer will restart.

Then re-install your original drivers as you normally would.

Be careful not to delete anything other then the ATI files and key trees, otherwise you could damage your system installation. You do it all on your own risk. again, worst case scenerio, you'll have to re-install the OS using your recovery discs.

Best of luck,

- Randomness

I used to run into the same issue with 1.6, just a chance. But try and make sure that wow totally drawing a blank now! But FPS Sync is set to always off in CP or it will max out FPS at screen refresh rate setting

Just a though, GL!
