ATI Mobility HD3470 Stuttering, WoW

Hey everyone from DH,

I've got a problem, since today I've got a new notebook with the mobility HD3470.

When I play WoW, my fps is 30+ on the highest graphics, and it runs smooth, except for all of the stuttering that occurs. Even when I play it on lowest graphics, I get the same problem.

I also tried to install the newest ATI drivers with the modtool (which detected my HD3470 for a HD3450 but I read that it was a bug).

But even with the newest drivers, the stuttering is still there.

Is there any sollution to this?

Greetings,
djinn

check the temps.

i am also having this issue, but ive been extremely busy lately (funny, though, as i have time to answer this...). i used to have an x600 mobility way back when, and the issue with that was that it was overheating a little. another possibility is memory bandwidth (something about the screen being drawn but not sent to the monitor in time...) try enabling/disabling vsync as well and see how that affects it. my laptop is a sony fw139e, and the only thing ive noticed is that i always play wow on my lap instead of a desk, so im gonna try a desk and let you know if its cooling related or not. good luck with this.

I've looked into it and I think I found the problem. My laptop doesn't use dedicated memory, it uses hypermemory (fancy term for using built in ram as video memory). the downside of this is that bandwidth is shared by gpu and the rest of the system, so this makes sense for the lag. basically, the gpu can handle the load, but video has to be transfered to and from system memory, so it will "lag" because system memory (ddr2) is much slower than dedicated ram would be. to check if this is the case for you, open catalyst control center, (make sure its in advanced mode), check under information, then hardware info. scroll down to memory size and memory type. if its hypermemory, this is your issue. as for a fix, im not sure if there is one, but ill look into it a bit more.

think i got it. download ati tray tools. after installing, right click on tray icon, tools and options, general options. advanced tab, then disable enable shared att memory.

so far so good for me
