rolleyes x600 on HP zd8000

hi,
I have a HP8020us with a ati x600. when I install anything from HP's driver site, after windows mpe starts, the screen goes black. I reboot to safe mode and disable it, reboot and every thing boots up fine, I can get 1024 by 768 with 32 bit.
So I downloaded mobility modder along with the latest catalst from ati, followed your instructions and wala, everything worked fine, got higher resolution ect.
than I shutdown for a while, restarted and problems back. I deleated all ati drivers and used ati's removal tool before i proceded with your process. I also tried just the driver, same thing.
So, i'm back to disabled driver, everything seems to work ok, I can view streaming video or anything on my HDD, but I get no video from my dvd player. Is there any known solution? Anyone have any idea what my problem might be?
I appriecate any help, would like to watch movies on this thing, it's really a nice machine except for the video.
Bill

exclamation ATI Radeon Mobility X600 HP8000 zd8110us Problems

We started having the exact same problem after the latest Windows Update on July 10, 2008. I've tried ripping out the previous drivers, running the diagnostics at HP, downloading the same drivers from HP and reinstalling them afterward. I've also downloaded the drivers from ATI, v8.2 as latest version doesn't recognize mobility X600 as supported version.

The difference from your situation is we have to start up in VGA mode to get the OS to show up. When I remove the driver and restart it works. But, the computer will freeze if I try to change the video driver above 8 bit. The ATI drivers keep coming back like a virus every time after I remove them.

The computer has Windows XP Media Center Edition installed with the latest service packs. I don't know that it is definitely the Windows Update that corrupted it, but it was only a day or so later and nothing else was installed. The odd thing is I tried to do a system restore to the Sunday before the issue started, before the WU had run, but no go.

All diagnostics pass, so I'm truly puzzled.

Thanks, Doc
