??? ATI Mobility Radeon HD2700 driver for Vista

Hi =)

I just bought the Fujitsu-Siemens AMILLO Xi2550-26P with the HD2700 graphic card, 2048Mb RAM and 2.5GHz Core Duo CPU. I have read in different forums that the HD2700 is supposed to be a high performance graphic card. But I have to say, so far I am very disappointed. I installed Call Of Duty 4 and began with the highest resolution (1920x1200) and texture quality. It was totally unplayable. I lowered it until the game was playable again and then I was down to 800x600 and low texture quality. Okey it’s a new game but I thought the HD2700 would handle it better than that.
After that I tried Battlefield 1942 which is a 6 years old game. Not even this game was playable with the highest resolution (1600x1200) and texture quality. Come on?

After this most disappointing results I compared my AMILLO Xi2550 with my friends Dell XPS M1530 with the NVIDIA GeForce Go 8600 GT, 2Ghz Core Duo CPU and 2048Mb RAM. Its almost the same hardware spec but I don’t know the performance difference between 8600GT and HD2700. Anyway, in Call Of Duty 4 we tried to run on his LCD screens highest resolution 1440x900 and highest Texture quality. The game ran perfectly smooth with no problems. Off course the result was the same in Battlefield 1942.
I thought his and mine Notebook would handle the same games with almost the same results.

After this most surprising result I thought of trying to update the Graphic driver. The Big problem is that there is no Radeon HD2700 driver on ATI homepage. My Question is if I can use a Mobility Modded HD2600 driver until they release the HD2700 driver? I’ve heard that these cards are almost identical. But I can be mistaking.
Right now I am using a driver called ATI Mobility Radeon Family Driver HD 2400/2700 ver 8.442 that Fujitsu-Siemens supplied. I think (and hope) this driver is the cause to my graphic problems.

I appreciate any thoughts and ides you might have =)

Best Regards
Martin

Hi there Martin and Welcome to DriverHeaven!

Fist ATI/AMD can't make drivers for some notebooks because the makers don't give them the device ID's what they are using. So the drivers would have to come from Fujitsu-Siemens. You can always try the Mobility Modder to see if it can help you. Mod the newest desktop drivers (CAT 8.3)

First of all sorry for bumping this, but its a issue for me to.
Strange part is that he has EXACTLY the same problems as me and exactly the same name as me =) The only difference is that i have 4gb ram and 1gb turbomemory (whatever that is)..

I've gotten stuck to CoD4 now after switching from UrbanTerror to this now. My general experience says (after 5 reinstalls of windows xp & vista) that the performance is very unstable. One format and the game runs....eehh...ok, probably around 30-40fps but in action down to 20-25.

In XP i used the modded driver and tried that one out but since i somehow managed to bollux it up i didnt get the game running. But the driver was showing as it should i think, right now i dont remember the problem =)

So my though is, now running on Fujitsu driver now, but im not at all happy with the performance. Im playing a game in 800x600 with LOW settings on everything (and even now im in CCC.exe putting it all on low to see if that matters and the fps is MAX 25, sometimes jumps up to 30 on very few ocations.

Like Martin says, this is a rather new computer, costly as hell 1500 euro and you would think that the damned laptop would be able to run in at least 1024 with high/max detail.

I want to see if someone has come up with a sollution for this in Vista. Im probably reinstalling to see what exactly when wrong in XP last time, this week, so i can supply some results from that. But since its a Vista laptop i wouldnt mind running that insted of XP.

Thanks for reading,
/Martin
