Problem- OpenGL on Mobility Radeon HD 2600 with XP
Well, the post title pretty much says it all.
I've got an Asus F3Ka laptop with HD 2600 and I've installed XP. I got all drivers working properly (finally), and installed modded ATI driver (8.2) with Mobility Modder.
The first game I went to play was Armordillo Run, and it ran HORRIBLY. This was akward, because windows graphics ran fine (which it did not before driver install). I then tried OpenArena and it gave me an error that OpenGL could notbe started. I've done some quiet extensive research and apparently XP has problems with the driver or something. All topics are fairly old and either say don't use OpenGL apps, or "this will be fixed in the next release".
I'm at a loss, and so hoping the DriverHeaven community will help me out.
Thanks a lot,
Aziz

There is some information about the OpenGL problems in this thread: ATI Catalyst 8.3 Out Now
I think it should apply to the mobile drivers too...

Hello,
It seems to me you have excactly the same problem I have with my Acer Notebook with ATI Mobility Radeon HD2400 XT. I tried several drivers, but up to now I didn't get my openGL applications running properly.

Okay, tried Omega drivers. However when I run the install, it throws me an INF error and tells me to dry to install the standard VGA driver. Tried installing via device manager from the folder, but no luck. This was the same issue with the driver that I got off Asus forums.
Any idea?

No luck with Catalyst 7.11 There is no hope is there? I'm going back to Vista anyways. I can't hibernate or standby either :S

I have the same problem with my HP 8510p and 2600 Mobility. The only solution is HP ATI drivers which are horrible in Direct3D games. Team Fortress 2 constantly stutters.

Who cares about bad english as long as you got the answers, eh? And while I can't read that language (german, dutch? typical ignorant canadian :P), google translate is my saviour. Thanks a lot, I'll check it out. Do you know if it solves the hibernate/standby problem, too?

it's german .for the xp driverpakage you only need to download these six parts. and for your opengl problem the opengl-registry-fix should work fine.
i don't know something about the standby-problem...can you explain it? maybe then i could help you.

I had all XP drivers anyways from the ASUS forums, so I didn't try those, but the registry key worked! How ridiculous that all it needed was a registry value to point to the dll? =/ Thanks a lot for that!
The other issue I mentioned was with standby and hibernation. I can go into standby or hibernation mode without a problem, but when I try booting back up I get a blue screen of death and the computer restarts instantly. I haven't been able to read to text, but I remember seeing an option to prevent it from automatically rebooting on error, maybe in my bios. I thought it was the video driver (as I had read that on another thread), but perhaps it is something else. Any help would be appreciated in that regard as well. I think this should be stickied or something, or at least that file referenced/posted here, as the modded drivers or omega drivers all have this problem.
Again, thanks!

I had several problems regarding my mobility HD2600 in my Toshiba P200.
First the Toshiba drivers suck like hell.
So I tried to MOD with the last Cat. 8.3 And it worked well except in Open Glide. Using OpenGL, applications suffered from amazing stutters.
I found this hot fix in AMD page AMD Customer Care it is a fixed 8.3 CAT… I Modded the driver and changed the memory to 512MB and installed them (driver + CCC).
Now everything Works like a charm. I hope this can help you guys.
PS1: This is generally a good card regarding its price… But if you turn AA even in 2X mode you will have a brutal drop in FPS. The truth is, that with this driver, the AA features are a complete joke.
PS2: I run IL2 1946 (OpenGL) v4.08 @75FPS no AA, but it will drop to less than 30FPS using only 2X AA
PS3: I also run Flaming Cliffs v1.12b (DirectX) @50+ FPS no AA, once again if I use only 2X AA the game will drop to 25- FPS.
Cheers.

Reason: custom colors and font's removed since the post wasn't readable on other site themes.

I'll post them to a server or something tonight or tomorrow. I don't have a lot of bandwidth on my web server so we'll see.

the same problems with ati mobility 2600 hd
i have got a NB a7kc asus with ati 2600hd ,Windows xp. I already have used the reg.fix, and modified 8.3 ati drivers. All seemed to be OK, but no. Now, when i play some game, that uses Openglide, my notebook turns off after 10 minutes of playing. Dont know what to do.
Did somebody find the solution of these problems ?
