ATI Mobility Radeon x1400 Driver Issues...
Hi all,
I've been trying to install some updated ATI drivers (7.6) onto my Dell 6400 laptop with an ATI Mobility Radeon x1400 card in order to play some Viva Pinata for PC. Even though the mod tool has worked, and I've apparently installed the drivers, the game still tells me that it can't run properly because the version of ati2dvag.dll is still 6.14.10.6698. My CCC gives me the following info: Driver Packaging Version 8.383-070613a-048640C-ATI Catalyst® Version 07.6 Provider ATI Technologies Inc. 2D Driver Version 6.14.10.6698 2D Driver File Path System/CurrentControlSet/Control/Video/{7CF23FB3-50DF-4410-B6D8-AE6FD4F16A26}/0000 Direct3D Version 6.14.10.0503 OpenGL Version 6.14.10.6479 Catalyst® Control Center Version 2007.0613.1506.25058 Other system info off of dxdiag: Operating System: Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 (2600.xpsp_sp2_qfe.070227-2300) Language: English (Regional Setting: English) System Manufacturer: Dell Inc. Ever since trying to update my drivers, I've been getting errors involving my laptop switching to 4-bit colors and telling me that ati2dvag.dll stopped working correctly; looking through my event log shows some sort of infinite loop error. It happens when I enter the game despite its warnings. I'm somewhat new at this, so I'm probably missing something really obvious/idiotic. Help? Thanks, CF Last edited by cruelfeline; Dec 27, 2007 at 07:34 PM. |

Hi there and Welcome to DriverHeaven!
Did you uninstalled the old drivers before installing the new drivers? |

Yea; or, at least, I think I did.
I went through the Control Panel and uninstalled anything with ATI in the name; I got DriverCleaner to clean anything with ATI. |

Hmm... if you used DC to clean it should remove all ATI .dll files. Uninstall again ati drivers, but before that get the CAT 7.12 from ATi and mod them... They might solve the issue.

Tried the modded 7.12; same error, again.
Edit: Went back to Omega drivers; the ATI modded ones were messing with my ingame graphics. The problem's still occuring, though. And I've tried a bunch of stuff: updating BIOS and chipset drivers, updating other drivers, trying different graphics drivers, etc, etc. I can get into Viva Pinata for a few minutes, then some of the non-3D graphics (icons and stationary backgrounds) will suddenly go black, and the game will crash to desktop. Desktop will be in 4-bit colors at a really low resolution, and I have to reboot. There are so many supposed solutions to this online, and none I've tried have worked for me. Anyone?
