ati radeon mobility x600 help

Hi guys.
I have a laptop pavillion zd8290ea with ati radeon x600. Yesterday I bought a hp w2207h monitor. I use it as a second monitor with the laptop and I have this problem: image, colours and resolution are fine but there is a sort of interference in the background (like on a tv). Millions of small dots moving around in horizontal lines. I have tried the monitor with another computer and it works. The strange thing is that I have tried another monitor (15") with the laptop and no problems. Any idea? I have the latest drivers of everything.
Thank you in advance.

Welcome to DH!

Strange problem you have there. Have you tried older drivers for your x600?

Yes, I have tried everything. Today, even a complete reinstall. Nothing. Could the ATI be broken in some way? Maybe with this tipe of monitor I can see the interference and with a smaller one I just can't. I don't really understand. They are both HP (the laptop and the monitor)!

Have you tried adjusting the refresh rates of the monitor?

Also, go into Device Manager and REMOVE all currently listed monitors. Reboot and let Windows redetect the currently connected displays. Good luck!

Nothing works! I am desperate. Tried bios upgrade, nothing. There is the replicator port on the computer. Do you think I can use it with something to connect the monitor the monitor? Maybe the problem is with the x600 vga.

Anyway you can capture a couple of images and post them? You'll need to use an image hosting site to do so. Imageshack is good as well as a few others.

I'm kind of wondering if the cable is the correct shielded cable required for this connection?

I also wonder is the power supply in the laptop is sufficient to power both monitors?

Do you have the HP monitor plugged into the same wall outlet as the laptop? If so, try plugging it into a circuit separate from the one used by the laptop.

Good luck!

The cable is the original one (already tried others). Already tried different plug connection, different circuit, isolated the earth (on one, on both). Tried laptop plugged, only battery, without battery! Nothing. I will try to post an image but I think there is not much to see. It is just like "sand and wind" in the backgroung. No image distorsion. The dots are white, so I can see them if I use a dark background.

Have you installed the displays drivers I had some similar issues with my ViewSonic VX712 and the problems went away when I installed the LCD's drivers.

Sounds like the monitor might have some problems then, mate. Might want to call the manufacturer and get a replacement.
