Hy!
I've got following problem with my ATI Mobility Radeon X700 PCI/Express (128MB VRAM). Sometimes when I change out of Games or other full-screen size functions to the Desktop my display displays real nonsense. I can't really describe it, but there are small stripes on the whole display (if this effect happens the next time I'll make a foto) and I can't recognize anything on the display. This especially happens when I close full-screen sized DOS-functions. Do get a normal picture on my display again, I've to change into hibernation mode and after the hibernation mode the display is normal again. Why happens this failure or how can I avoid it? PS: I'm using WinXP and Radeon Omega Driver v3.8.413 Last edited by netx1; Oct 13, 2007 at 07:16 AM. Reason: to get more attention |

Hello,
Yep i got the same problem! And i am so pissed on ati, i will never buy computer with this card again. I have Toshiba m70-113 laptop with x700 mobile video card. This happens only if you change resolution, and ONLY on laptop screen, it doesn't happen if you attach external monitor. Because of this i am totaly unable to run linux on my laptop, because sometimes X starts and sometimes it does not ;-/. It doesn't happen with drivers i got with my laptop. But they are very old and newer games don't work with them (graphic is smashed etc.). So this is not a solution for me. I would be really happy if someone have solution for this problem

@ 5zymon: "I love you, cause you are at last the first person which responds to my questions"
5zymon is right this error happens if you change your resolution. But I also think, this problem is not really caused by ATI the real origin of this error are the omega-drivers. (But playing games without them is impossible.) But I think with the new omega-driver this problem happens fewer times than with the older omega-driver I had installed. I hope, omegadrivers.net is able to fix that problem in the next releases. Your NetX 1 |

I hate to disappoint you, but i got the same effect on original catalyst drivers and on fglrx ATI module on linux system. And i am sure it is caused by ATIs ignorance to drivers and users.

I have the same problem as you guys have. I'm using a acer 5024 with a 128mb x700 card.
The problem appears with the omega driver as well as the newest catalyst driver. This problem started to occur a couple of driver versions before. I managed to use older drivers for a while where this problem wasn't existant but some of the latest games require me to use the newest catalyst drivers (or derivates of it) and it's started to drive me crazy already.. Please see if you can solve this, i beg you. If there's any relevant info i can give that will help i'll be happy to provide it. |

I have this problem fort one and a half year now. Since i got this laptop. And i don't even have a clue how can i solve this. It looks like it appears only on x700 mobility card. Like i told you, it is the same with new FGLRX linux module provided by ati. So there is some serious trouble with new ati drivers and i think that only they can solve this somehow. BUt if they did do it till now i really doubt there will be solution for this.

Yep, I'm afraid that there will be no solution for this.
Not because they can't but simply because they wont even bother to try and fix it. However.. There might be some kind of compability setting that i have missed? No? |

I have this problem too...I removed the display drivers and used Drivercleaner.net with cab cleaner...now I get the lines not as often but the computer doesn't recognize the video card anymore! I'm trying to find drivers now for ATI mobility radeon x700 but when I ran the catalyst or modded drivers on driverheaven.net, I get a message that says this driver does not exist...anyone know where I can find and install the drivers? I tried to system restore but that failed as well.

Ok, i downloaded the correct drivers and catalyst, now I get a black screen and a weird noise when it crashes. Should I run the modded drivers.net?

That is a video RAM error, its either dying or overheating, is there dust on your card at all?
I would use drivercleaner and clear out everything, and run a separate registry cleaner to just make sure, do it in safemode as well. Other things to check would be to make sure your DVI or VGA cable is not damaged. |

Actually the problem is purely driver related and not hardware failure.
I've tested all version drivers starting from Catalyst 7.10 back to 6.4, which came out to be the last driver that works ok. I've used mod tool with official drivers + the same X700 Mobility 128RAM bundled in Acer laptop. Last edited by niksus2; Nov 14, 2007 at 04:43 PM. |

Thanks for your help. I'm not sure what you mean, tho. Should I download the official ATI drivers for the mobility radeon x700 from the ATI website as well as catalyst 6.4 and then use the modded drivers app from driverheaven? Is the 6.4 catalyst better for my problem then ver. 7.10? Any help is much appreciated. |

Sorry, if I wasn't so clear - english is not my native language.
I was not able to download official drivers for Mobility Radeon X700, but official non-mobility X700 driver will do the trick, as that's what DH Mobility Modder is doing. You should download DriverHeaven Mobility Modder, following the instructions there you should do it's magic with official Catalyst 6.4 drivers. Afterwards ... well enjoy your not-blocking computer ![]() Btw a simple uninstall of the previous drivers was enough for me. No need for driver cleanup tool - just overwrite the newer files during the install of the old driver over the new one. |

Do you have a driver from your manufacturer? You can try with it. I really doubt that when you bought your computer, there was such a problem. If it's not hardware problem, you will find out.
I have a driver provided by Acer (my laptop manufacturer), although it's very old, my laptop is working ok with it. After I've changed it with 7.10 (because of some game), this problem started. So that's why I was sure that it's driver related and started my quest to find the last stable. |

Is there now any stable and good Driver for Mobility X700 available?
(This means without the "stripe-error" and good enough for actual games.) |

Looks like I'm expressing really weird.
Yes, there is such a driver - Catalyst 6.4 I don't know if it will be good enough for you. For me it is - Crysis is working with it ![]() If you still can't understand the solution, I might try to "translate" my posts in more simplier terms. I'm willing to do so, as this problem is the most annoying driver problem that I've ever met, and I'll gladly help anyone get rid of it. |

I used the catalyst 6.4 but have the 7.10 drivers installed. It worked for about 30 minutes then crashed again...should I remove the drivers and install the 6.4 drivers?

Yes, you should first remove the old drivers.
You may try with driver cleanup tool too. |

Sorry niksus2, of course I understand your English (it's pretty good).
Apparently I've missed, that this question was posted before. But thanks for your help and post if there are new drivers or other solutions. |

ATI seems to be notorious for letting this happen very often.
I get the same problem if I install anything higher than Catalyst 5.4 on my ZT3000 Radeon 9200 Mobility. So far, the only solution I have is to use Catalyst 5.4 |

I don't think that I will follow any new drivers from ATi, as this problem obviously exist for a long time and it is still unattended (refering Xagest's post). Maybe I'll take a look every now and then at this thread and at Omega Drivers changelog, but frankly I don't believe that this problem will be properly solved - if official drivers are lacking support for 2-year old video cards... |

For the record, ATI is not responsible for providing support for mobility video cards. It's the laptop/notebook company that's responsible for such drivers and updates. ATI makes an effort to do so, but, it's not their job to do it. It's done voluntarily.
ATI, however, has already stated that they will no longer support DX8 or previous video cards with updated drivers. It's the same that they won't support Windows 9x or previous OS. The limitation has to begin somewhere.

I have the exact same card as the original poster, in an Acer Aspire 3020wmli, with the exact same problem. Anyway, installing the old(virtually ancient) 6.4 drivers has actually worked, and I no longer have this problem, except... the drivers don't work all that great with some recent games.
I suppose you can't have it all though, eh? |

From my point of view the mobility and non-mobility reference drivers are not so different, since the mod tool exist at all (I don't try by any means to depreciate the efforts and the great job done by it's developers). So I basically consider them as a single core and I think that there is a problem with the official Ati driver in general - as I've discovered for about 20 consecutive versions. I'm curious if all Mobility X700 cards from supported by Catalyst Mobility manufacturers are lacking this problem, when reference drivers are used. And just for the record Ati Mobility Radeon X700 is discrete card (not a build-in one; that's why I'm willing to share the responsibility between OEM and Ati), it's not DX8 card and as I see it still has Ati in its name.
