Troubleshooting Mobility M6

Howdy all, looking for help with a grumpy laptop. Overall, I'm trying to get this laptop to run World 'o Warcraft, but I am continually recieving a "cannot start 3D acceleration" error on startup. The specs of the laptop and its video meet the min requirements for the game. (see specs below) DX 9.0c All tests passed

The main problem seems to be that the laptop won't accept any other drivers except stock. After every reboot, It comes up with the ATI mobility M6 driver.

Failed courses of action thus far

1. Uninstall, DriverCleaner, ModTool4, new ATI Catylist 7.8

Installation for Cat 7.8 would not complete, even after precisely following the DC and ModTool instructions. Used ATI filter

2. Uninstall, DriverCleaner, latest Radeon Omega driver

Installation completes, but as always, after final reboot, the stock driver is back

3. Same as #2 but with Omega Drivers v3.8.252 - Cat 6.5

Same result as above

I must be missing something obvious - I've read so much about how great these drivers and utilities are, any suggestions?
