graphic problems with Warhammer 40k DoW: text

hi guys,

Im not sure if this is the right forum to post this, so please move accordingly if it isn't:
I just purchased and downloaded the Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War game on Steam, and upon launching, I'm getting corrupted text. It's a little hard to explain in words what it looks like, so here's a screenshot for your viewing pleasure:

I didn't think too much of it at first, until i realized it also occurs in game (display for resources, unit descriptions, etc. is also screwed up). Has anyone experienced this problem before? any idea on what may be causing it?

All other games I play on my laptop (CS: Source, WoW, DoD, etc) are well behaved without any problems.

My sys specs that matter are:
Pentium M 1.8 Ghz
generic 1.5 GB ram (came with laptop)
ATi X600 mobility (using catalyst 7.8 drivers moded)
Windows Vista Home Prem. edition.
