Prognosis for mobility 9000 vista drivers

I would be happy just to get to the native 1280 x 800 resolution of my Toshiba laptop display - I'm not planning on running aero or gaming. Is there any way to achieve that using xp drivers in a "compatibility mode" or using an alternative driver.

Does anyone know if there is any hope of expecting ATI to release at least a basic Vista driver for radeon mobility 9000 users?

Thanks

It is safe to say ATI won't be releasing a driver for your card. Support of card older than the 9500 or 9600 seriers has been dropped, especially mobility cards. If you can't find something from the Toshiba site, you may be out of luck.

Have you tried the default drivers within windows? I've not yet installed Vista on my laptop, so I don't know how that would work. Other than that, just wait and hope Omega or some of the other modders release some drivers in the future. My guess though, you are stuck with XP for that card.

Judas,

Thank you very, very much. That worked perfectly. Its one of those WTF moments where I'm hating Vista more than usual but persevere enough to find DriverHeaven and get a reply from you telling me that the driver is supplied with Vista but MS is hiding it.

I've put the machine through all types of installs and run all the business and graphics software I'll be using without a hitch.

I was going to go back to XP just because non native resolutions really bother me. I need to start working with Vista because I do app support and I'm starting to run across it.

So everything worked out fine for you after running through the process i posted?

I was getting heavily annoyed as well with vista and the none native resolutions, i figured with vista's recent launch, that vista would allow for VGA modes that had Widescreen resolutions available, but alas, not the case.. So i fiddled around until i came across the manual install using the search for all hardware...

You did some excellent troubleshooting, maybe all the time I spent looking for drivers, hacked drivers etc was effort in the wrong place but I spent hours searching online and found nothing until your post. I was about to to wipe out Vista and put XP back on when you posted.

This Toshiba A75 was given to me due to its owner having so many problems that he bought a new laptop. I took it apart and fixed everything (clean heatsink, artic silver for cpu, fix a problem with grounding and the power jack. I enjoy working on laptops (as long as its not my job) so it was fun and now its my Vista PC for office and support work.

Thanks again

fetid dingo is on a distinguished road

The best Windows Experience Index scores i seem to be able to get with my 9000 mobility drivers at the moment is a 1.9 for "Graphics" and a 1.0 for "Gaming Graphics". Is that about right, or am i missing something somewhere?

Acer 803lci - 1.6 Pentium M. 1.25gb memory. Mobility 9000 Radeon.

I'm using the Radeon 9000 drivers as per Judas's link above.
