ATI Mobility Radeon x600 FFXI Gaming Problems...

Hello,

I've been playing Final Fantasy XI for two years now. The first year on a desktop and this past year on my current laptop, an HP zd8000 with a Mobility x600 video card.

I have never had any issues with my gaming until a few days ago when the game refused to load. FFXI uses a program called PlayOnline which I found out does not "officially" support laptops because the video cards are not changeable.

When I try to load the PlayOnline application it will begin to do so as normal, but before the login screen appears, the program will stop and the window will close.

After contacting customer support for PlayOnline, I was told that my video card (Mobility x600) was probably not supported any longer and my options were basically to stop playing FFXI or buy a new computer.

I refuse to believe that these are my only two options. And being very naive to the whole realm of video cards, I've wracked my brain trying to find a solution to the problem.

I've been reading a lot about updating my Mobility x600 driver, but am having horrible luck in trying to do so. Every website I go to doesn't seem to work or it's so confusing I have no clue what I'm reading. I also have read about Omegas, but again, I have no clue what they are.

I'm beginning to become very discouraged with this process. If anyone has any sound advice for me, I'd be more than ecstatic to listen.

Thank you in advance for your suggestions!

You can find mobility drivers from http://ati.amd.com/online/mobilecatalyst/

As to your problem, I play that game on my laptop as well with an even older card, a 9700. Try that new driver and see how it goes.

Thank you so much for your reply!

I actually tried a few other things, and eventually got it to work! It took me awhile, and a lot of reading, but after updating my driver it worked.

Now everytime I click on PlayOnline I get nervous that it's not going to work again!
