Asus V1JP Radeon X1700 and Modded Drivers

A the moment the Asus cat drivers for the above are about 8 months out of date. Presently neither the mobility modder or Omegadrivers support this particular graphics card, I believe there is more than 1 model, the device string for this one is:

PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_71D5&SUBSYS_12421043&REV_00\4&2D4 04BB6&0&0008

If anyone can point me to modded drivers that work (for both xp and vista) that would be great

Cheers

The Official Vista Mobility Drivers from the ATI site support this Card OK (Running it on a ASUS F3J-P) (Even if they don't say they do..)

XP Ones don't without modification though - There was an article I found somewhere a while back on modding the drivers to support the X1700 let me dig it up..

OK - I found the article - Drivers for x1700 Mobility - Guru3D.com Forums

Interesting though - Trying it on the Mobility 7.2 Drivers shows it already has the correct PCI Vendor IDs - And should Install ok on WinXP anyhow - You just need to GET the drivers!

Think Link - Mobile Catalyst Download should start downloading the drivers straight away - rather than going through check program listed on the ATI website which will say your notebook is incompatible..

I'm going to try this in the next couple of hours (Dual Booting Vista and XP Since Vista Sucks for Games I like... Like AOE2 ~_^)

Hi to all, as I'm new on this forum.
oooooh thanks a lot tekrox, finally I've found some installable catalyst driver !!!! I don't know how manage you to make installable that catalyst driver. I've try modtoolv4 and omega drivers and neither worked. Please explain me how to found out, to make posible how to install future releases from ati support.

However, have you experienced a better perfomance with this driver compared form olders??

Partial success

I was looking for some help in this area as I too have a Asus V1Jp. I didn't have any luck with the modder, at least with the Cat 7.4 drivers. I was able to install Omega 3.8.330 with some difficulty. The installation process stopped with the message that no compatible drivers could be found. But, then, I went into Device Manager and used the Update Driver option to successfully install the Omega drivers. It didn't install the Catalyst Control Center though. Haven't tried to install the Cat 7.2 drivers straight out as .tekrox suggested. Has anyone tried this with success?

However, while I was playing with gothic 3 I experienced some problems with gloom effects which I hadn't before. So, I don't know if it's better to remain with the asus driver or intall the other one.

I believe the latest version of the Omega's - based on the 7.5 set works fine with that particular card. In any case Mr. Angel Trinidad did state that the Omega's would work with ALL versions of ATI cards provided that they were not based on the M6 chipsets or any below.

Cool!

Well...

It looks like the x1700 is tagged as a M56 Chipset(5.6?) in the newest Omega drivers. In the CX2K_RAD_OMEGA.inf(Omega setup file) it says: "Mobility Radeon X1700 (Omega 3.8.421) " = ati2mtag_M56". Thats M6 or lower! I and the drivers sure doesn't work. It won't even install! (on my ASUS F3JP). I really thought there was going to be a driver update to day, but no...

As of this moment I have totaly given up this lamo search for a new driver. God damn you ASUS and ATI for branding this card(x1700) as an upgrade of the x1600. The x1700 without driver updates ain't near the x1600 with updates. I'ts more like the crippled kid they denie ever existed because they left it alone in the dark woods!

Well well. End of story. Don't wast any more of your precious time on this stupid driver issue, and just face the fact, there will never be any driver update for the x1700. "The cake is a lie!" Instead, start saving up your money for "the new laptop". You know, the one with vendor independent driver updates from ATI or nVidia

I know I am.

-BJ-

P.S
If someone can prove me wong about the driver updates, I couldn't be more happy for all you x1700 owners.
