Default Post Modd Analysis

Hello:

I have finished my analysis of your mod. Below are my results.

In BREIF : The mod technically disables the "Universal Radeon Video Acceleration" driver module, which forces the core 2D driver to use Video Mixing Rendering (VMR) for DVD Playback. Overlay support, and iDCT video acceleration are completely disabled.

I found this mod considerably usful in the sense that it did not show any signs on image tearing during DVD playback using VMR, as i have seen in other implimentations of the VMR workaround.

Here are my notes from my experiments:

The ativvaxx.dll is a compressed version of actual file. And hence, is not functionall DLL in Catalyst driver set.

Because the Video acceleration library (ATIVVAXX.DLL) is technically not a valid DLL while compressed, the modd disables all Radeon Video Acceleration libraries, and support for iDCT and overlay mixing.
This forces the core 2D Driver (ati2dvag.dll) forces DirectX to use VMR 7 or VMR 9.
Results in DVD playback requiring 30-50 % CPU usage.
Using the uncompressed ATIVVAXX.DLL using standard "expand" command and same procedure results in BSOD from Driver error.
However, considerable less tearing / no tearing during video playback. as found in other mods, and VMR workaround.
Good mod for people who don't need battery / not into movies all that much, but occasionally use DVD Playback.

when i mean the DLL is compressed, i mean in needs to be renamed to ATIVVAXX.DL_, and then use the command "EXPAND ATIVVAXX.DL_ ATIVVAXX.DLL" at the command prompt.

Just wanted to post this random info about this modd before i forget / delete the experiment files off my Harddrive. I do like the fresh data you have found out about the difficulties for the IGP 320M and related chips.

I have also noticed, when one downloaded the "pre-R300" Catalyst 6.11 driver, DVD playback actually works (usuing simple modds, such as patje's tools, or tweaking the INF), but the FPS is between 15-20. Not quite suitable for watching a movie, but the closest i've witnessed with regards to using newer Drivers with the IGP 3xxM.

Good luck, take care, and have fun.
