Hello, welcome to DriverHeaven.net

So you Have:
Aspire 1800 series notebook
ATi Mobility x600 w/128MB
Currently, OEM provides Catalyst 4.11 (Internal version 8.07) 11/12/04

Recommend you download the latest modded driver based on Catalyst 6.9 (Internal Version 8.291) 09/20/2006

You said you were unsuccessful in installing other modded drivers (Omega, DNA). Could you be more specific on the issue you are encountering?

Newest BIOS version for your notebook from Acer is 2.60. Please try updating your BIOS to this version if you have note already done so. Follow Acer's instructions carefully. You do so at your own risk/repsonsibility.

It is strongly recommended you uninstall your drivers through the "Add/Remove" applet in Control Panel, and than use DriverCleaner Pro (www.drivercleaner.net) to remove the remaining "residual" files. Restart your system, and run the cleaner again.
Then install a fresh copy of your preferred modded drivers.

You could try using Patje's mod tool to make your own modded drivers. Simply follow the information from his page here: www.driverheaven.net/patje

Good luck, and take care.

exclamation FPS drop, OMG!

Im useing PhoenixBIOS v2.90 and A Mobility 6.9 driver form station driver, but when i play BF2, CSS and Lineage 2, i get some wierd FPS drop, even when i use the lowest settings.
Don't have this problem on older games like C&C Generals and CS 1.6.

The problem with DNA and Omegadriver was slower speed on my computer.
My other pc with nvidia 5600 LE or something 128 mb had better preformance.

Going to try using Driver Cleaner Pro and removed all ATI software, and install catalyst 6.9 (mod with Patje).
But can i install CCC on norwegian after i installed driver?

Should i install v2.60 of bios instead?

Thanks for all the help.

Hello:

Yes, you can install CC on norwegian after you install the driver

If your using a newer BIOS, don't worry about needing to update. I am going to assume your notebook came with the newer BIOS.

As to the "wierd FPS drop", it might be possible your system is overheating. Try cleaning the the vents, and make sure your otebook is on a flat surface, and the vents are not obstructed.

It is also possible your system is running low of free physical memory, and needs to use the page file more frequently during game play.

Try removing unneeded startup programs. You can get Autoruns from here:
http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/Autoruns.html
disable unneeded items under its "logon" tab.
And defragmenting is always a god way to help speed up access to the page file if and when it is used.

Good luck, and take care.

When i start EA's EasyInfo, it show that i got 256 mb on my X600, is that normal?

Thank you for all the help!

Yes....it means you have HyperMemory. When you bought the machine, it probably wasn't advertised cause it wasn't available in all driver sets. My x700 didn't advertise Hypermemory and only listed the physical memory size on all advertising/specificiations. However, the drivers at the time didn't really support HyperMemory. A later driver revision and suddenly some games were detecting twice the physical memory I had.

To me...sounds like your problem is geared more towards your RAM. I'd recommend at least 1GB, preferably 2GB for that game. I played BF2 successfully on a PM 1.7Ghz, 512MB, 64MB x700...however I had to lower the res to the absolute minimum and set all display features to low...but I did run it at about 50FPS. Once I upgraded the RAM to 2GB...the game became playable at 1024x768 with medium features and a very fluid frame rate. My video card memory is really holding me back.

I'd look into upgrading the RAM and you'll probably notice a big difference. This isn't a video driver issue.
