Urgent - Problem with ATI Mobility Radeon 7000 IGP

Hello to all,

I have a 2.8 GHz Toshiba laptop (WinXP) with 768 MB RAM and an ATI Mobility Radeon 7000 IGP graphics card. I installed the Omega ATI drivers based on Catalyst 6.5 and they worked great. Recently I installed the latest 3.8.273 (Catalyst 6.7) drivers. I thought it was safe to install the new drivers over the old ones - but apparently not, because as soon as I restarted the PC and attempted to log in to Windows, I got a blue screen that flashed once and disappeared (the PC automatically restarted.) From what I got the error had to do with one of the new dll's installed by Omega. I restarted several times to no avail. I even went into Safe Mode to try and figure out what was wrong... nothing seemed to work. Finally I reinstalled the old original ATI drivers - which seemed to work, except that if I chose any 32 bit resolution the blue screen appeared yet again.

I experimented: Trying to reinstall the Omega drivers yet again (downloaded from 3 different mirrors) resulted in 1 clean startup - but the system refused to maintain any resolution higher than 800x600x16bpp. As of right now I have reverted to the old ATI drivers, which still have the aforementioned problem.

I am getting desperate in this situation and would really appreciate any constructive help.

Fixed my own problem, I think..

I rolled back all the drivers to the original ATI ones that were preinstalled on my computer (dllcache helped a lot) and redownloaded/installed the Omega drivers based on Catalyst 6.5.

Why did it not work? Well according to the ATI website Catalyst 6.7 is not supported by the following graphics cards -so by extension any enhanced drivers based on Catalyst 6.7 would also be incompatible with the above cards. That's just my theory, though, and I could be completely wrong.

Thanks to all who helped anyway
