Best drivers for Mobility X1600? (Zeropoint stoped working :S)

I got a Asus A6JA notebook with a 512MB X1600. I was using Zeropoint 0.64 (or at least i think i was, to be honest im not sure but those are the drivers i currently have saved on my DRIVERS folder) and i had a fairly good perforamce and no problems. Recently ASUS released a new driver for the card so since it was more recent i though i should try it out. After installing it games had a poor performace and texture problems (some were turning invisible). So i removed them and tried to install 0.64 again but for some reason my Windows XP doesn't boot with them i got a BSOD everytime it was on the boot logo (the one with the load bar). So i had to remove them in safe mode and now im with the old ASUS drivers (that still have some problems).

Is there any other recent and decent driver i can use with this card? Or does anyone know how can i get Zerpoint drivers to work again? I already tried the 0.65 but samething happens.

Btw i used DriveCleaner before installing each driver.

Thanks in advanced

Hi there. I have a toshiba A100-211 which has the same graphic card as yours, with the same VRAM. Initially I was using the oficial ati catalyst 6.3 from the toshiba site and then I tried the Omega based on 6.3 (www.omegadrivers.net) and they gave a notable performance boost over the oficial drivers. You should give those a try (they are in version 6.5 currently) !

Recently toshiba released a new package with the oficial ati catalyst 6.4 and I'm using those since they are performing really well on my laptop (better than the 6.3 cats I think).

I'm thinking of giving the new Omega 6.7 a try though (once they are released)

Good luck!

:d

I am using X1400(256M) with Intel Core DUO T2300E.

I don't want my reply to be seen as an overstatement- but the omega driver brought me fantastic performance. I've never seen before such a 'considerable' improvement by only changing drivers.

Let me give you 'non-professional examples' which mean that its based on actual playing experience, not the benchmark numbers.

1) I've been able to advance to 1024X768 from 800x600 with a few elevated options in Battlefield 2 since installed the omega driver.

2) I could escape from 800x600 low resolution in Age of Empire III. Though keeping low graphic options(textures, qualities, .etc) but now I am enjoying the game with widescreen resolution 1280 x 800.

And also- There are improvements at counter-strike : source, day of defeat : source, and some 3d FPS games.

* post script :

The meaning of 'been able to' 'escaple' is that I was able to play those games in the better situation without major discomforts such as harsh low/unstable fps or crash.

btw sorry for the poor english.
