ATI2Vag.dll error?

Well, I need help with some Omega drivers, Driver Cleaner Pro and potentially my audio card, and ... didn't know where else to put this.

My laptop specs are:

512 MB RAM
2.8 Ghz Pentium 4
ATI Radeon 9600 Mobility (128 MB)

Before this past Winter, I was able to play Battlefield 2 on medium settings without too much problem, and many of the Source mods on Medium - High, again without too many performance problems. However, for seemingly no reason, I noticed a huge hit in performance (I think it may be because I installed the drivers in a wrong manner perhaps, or the drivers I downloaded weren't clean? I'm not sure). But suddenly, yeah, my games just started to drop drastically in performance.

These past couple of weeks, I've noticed it has become far worse. I tried reinstalling older Omega drivers, but I think I may have compounded the problem. After quitting games, I'd receive the old blue Windows error screen, and the error pointed out this file, "ATI2vag.dll". I would then have to wait perhaps fifteen minutes before I was able to start my computer up again.

Basically I was wondering what a possible solution to this may be?

I've been looking to totally clear out my video card drivers and install an older set of Omega drivers that I clearly remember giving me no issues, and not these newer ones. I was wondering if Driver Cleaner Pro would recognize and clear out the Omega drivers? It says it works for ATI, but I wasn't sure if those were just the driver sets, or if they would delete any remnants of the Omega drivers as well?

Also, is it possible that faulty audio card drivers are to blame? I know that an ATI2vag.dll error would definitely have nothing to do with my audio card, but I'm thinking that it's possible that these drivers, as well, are faulty. So I'm going to replace those with the original ones that came with the computer (I only updated them in the first place in order to be able to play Civ 4, so I can live without that game).

Thanks in advance, sorry for writing out a novel but I'm sure you guys will give me great feedback, as I've never gotten a good answer from the other boards that I typically visit.

Faulty Drivers

Hello, and welcome to DriverHeaven.Net

Omega drivers are based on the ATi Catalyst directly. That said, you will be able to use DriverCleaner Pro to clean out your current driver installation.

I would recommend the following uninstall process for your current Omega Driver installation:
1) Use the Omega Drivers uninstall utility
2) Manually delete the Omega Driver Folder in Program Files.
3) Download and run DriverCleaner Pro from www.drivercleaner.net
Use the ATI filter setting.
4) Restart your system into safe mode, and run the utility again. If the utility does not run in safe mode, simply restart and run the utility in windows again to clean up any Driver files that were protected by the windows system file protection.

If the system is still able to re-install drivers for your chipset (aside from the "VGA Compatible controller"), than the drivers are still lurking somewhere on your harddrive, and need to be deleted.

When the system asks you to install the drivers, than your good to go. I would recommend trying to use the ATI mobility Catalyst driver first. But feel free to use any driverset you like.

As to your sound card, if it passes all the DirectSound tests in DXDIAG, it is unlikely you have a problem with your sound card drivers.

However i would need more information on your system to help in in that genre. I.E. Sound chipset, southbridge chipset, or simple the Notebook model.

If you need any further assistance, feel free to ask more questions.

Good luck, and Take care
