Mobility x700 refusing to work

I'm using Windows Pro 64bit and was on ATI 6.4 and it was working fine.

I wanted to download and upgrade to 6.5 naturally and so I followed my usual antics of uninstalling the old, using driver cleaner pro, modding the 6.5 with the DHmodder v3 and installing.

Thats all good and it finishes installing without a problem but when I reboot my laptops in low res and CCC then complains that no ATI drivers are installed and then forces me to use Standard VGA drivers. I try Device manager, manually feed it the *.inf, nothing!

it says

To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver.

and shows x700 in the device list with an Exclamation mark (as if something went errornos)

any ideas?!

oh and I tried reversing back to 6.4 but it does the same thing with that now!
