Two ati2evxx.exe processes - Powerplay only works with one

I'm having a bit of a strange problem with PowerPlay and my Mobility X300 video card.

I've tried just about every combination of video drivers and settings that I can think of but for some reason, I keep getting two instances of the ati2evxx process (the ATI Hotkey Poller). I've used AutoRuns to try to disable this, enable that, blah blah blah, but nothing changed.

Here's the deal: without the process running, PowerPlay doesn't work. With two of them, it doesn't work. If I kill one of them, then the other one closes soon afterwards. If I then start the service again, only one process starts up, and PowerPlay works.

I've tried using the default Dell drivers, every version of catalyst from 6.1 to 6.4 (modded), every version of Catalyst Mobility 6.1-6.4, Omegas, and some other drivers that I found here and on SoftPedia. They all produce the same problem.

If anyone has any idea as to why this is happening, please do tell. It seems like the only way for me to get this working is to manually kill the two running processes, and then start the service again. Thanks in advance.
