OS X driver 1.2b0 (BETA)

hi

1.2b0 (BETA) version is finally out.

Changes:

* Fixed kernel panic introduced in 1.1b1
* Fixed treble and bass issues [caused by invalid EQ preset]
* Added support for power management
* Added command-line utility 'kxctrl' (similar to Windows version). All features except SoundFont management are supported
* Added command-line utility 'edspctrl' (similar to Windows version). It uploads FPGA firmware into E-DSP cards (E-mu 1616, 1212, 0404 etc.)
* kX API is partially ported to OS X, thus, it is now possible to write DSP manager applications similar to kX Mixer (Windows). This is work in progress.
* Added 'kX Manager' application (/Application/Utilities) which currently does nothing. Ignore it : )

Features:
* 16-bit or 24-bit playback on most 10k1/10k2 cards (depending on card model)
* supports up to 8 speakers (configure speaker configuration in OS X 'Audio and MIDI' panel)
* should support SPDIF and headphones outputs, if applicable
* supports external modules (LiveDrive)
* supports hardware-accelerated volume control and mute, but not RemoteIR or onboard volume controls

Unimplemented:
* recording
* SPDIF+AC-3 passthrough
* 16/24-bit recording
* kX DSP and routing, no custom DSP effects
* hot-plug for PCMCIA device (Audigy2 ZS notebook) - surprise removal will probably cause a lock-up or kernel panic
* any sampling rate except 48000Hz not supported, OS X uses built-in SRC, which is quite good

Known issues:
* E-mu E-DSP cards are now supported the same way they are under Windows version of the kX driver. In order to upload FPGA firmware after reboot, open Terminal and type 'edspctrl'. It should initialize FPGA firmware and any dock stations you have. Note that if you reboot after Windows, and you were running Creative drivers, you need to reset FPGA firmware. Type 'edspctrl -reset'.

sorry if this is the wrong place to ask

but is there a way to make a file you open that will run this command for you (like a .bat windows file)

as i could load to dock & set to to run at startup?

On my Audigy 2 ZS + Live Drive! modified:

Treble and bass works perfectly now.
I'm using Hear as a mixer for the moment, and everything seams to work ok.

Hi, thanks for the driver first, it's really appreciate and i know you work hard for it..
I have a CT4620 SB LIve, i installed you're latest driver, works great but for 10 minutes only.
-How can i determine the version driver i'm using, i was running with the 1.1b0 and upgrade to version 1.2b0.
-I have the same problem, works great for the first 10 minutes and distortion and die...
-I'm running 10.5.4 JaS
-If i unload/reload the driver manually , works great for the next 10 minutes..

After some test, I've seen sporadic kernel panic, doing something (files compression, video processing, etc) while listening music... with 1.1b0 the system was more stable.

kx won't support any USB devices, but you can try your luck with OSX's own USB audio drivers

Hi all !

I'm running a hackintosh based on kalyway updated to Leopard 10.5.5.
My card is an Audigy 2 ZS. I've installed the drivers 1.2b0 but i can see just this in the dmesg:

Bus error

Previously, to use my onboard realtek audio card ( asus p5b mobo) I've used Azalia drivers modifing the plist file with the right VID and it's worked fine. Now I've disabled the onboard audio and i'm trying to use the Audigy...

Can anyone that has an Audigy 2 ZS help me a little bit with the 1.20b drivers ?

The above problem got solved when raidolo removed azalia and applehda. So kX installer fails if Azalia drivers are installed? Shouldn't kX installer axe or report any driver(s) conflicting with it's operation during installation???

Hope drivers become stable before next year

Where is E?

EDIT:
Eugene or anyone, is there any way to preload the kX drivers into OSX disc? something that nLite does for Win? Its cool to see start-up animation with sound thats all

Oxtie, of course porting from Linux is very hard job, but:
1. Who said anything about Alsa?
2. While porting itself is hard, who said anything about porting? It's not porting question, its information question, about how it supposed to work. So if we have working opensource driver we have much needed info about how it can be done for any OS, Linux/Windows/MacOsx/etc.

I doubt the problem is really related to Azalia... perhaps, some kind of misconfiguration etc. HDAudio and PCI drivers are completely independent. There should be no conflicts.

OSX disc: well.. just take the driver package and add it to the OS X install. This should be sufficient
