OS X driver 1.0b3 (ALPHA)

hi

version 1.0b3 released

changes:

* removed 'swap front and rear' feature to avoid confusion. users can re-assign their front and rear outputs by using built-in OS X functions
* added support for 24-bit playback for 10k2-based cards

known issues:

* after 5-10 min sound becomes distorted

===
This is ALPHA build, use it on your own risk.

Features:
* 16-bit and 24-bit playback on most 10k1/10k2 cards
* supports up to 8 speakers (configure them in OS X 'Audio and MIDI' panel)
* should support SPDIF and headphones outputs, if applicable
* supports external modules (LiveDrive)
* supports hardware volume control and mute

Unimplemented:
* recording
* SPDIF/AC-3 passthrough
* 16/24-bit recording on 10k2/audigy/audigy2 cards
* kX DSP and routing, no custom DSP effects, SDK and API
* hot-plug for PCMCIA device (Audigy2 ZS notebook) - surprise removal will probably cause a lock-up or kernel panic
* any sampling rate except 48000Hz not supported, OS X uses built-in SRC, which is quite good

Known issues:
* E-mu E-DSP cards are supported, but their FPGA firmware is not uploaded by default. If you are using Hackintosh, you will need to install kX driver, ensure audio is OK and reboot into OS X, this way FPGA firmware will be preserved and you will get audio.
* When installing under Leopard, you may need to reboot after you run the installer, because leopard won't load driver KEXT file
* audio samples in 'Sounds' preference may sound distorted in Leopard (due to unknown reason)

Short Fix

* after 5-10 min sound becomes distorted

When the sound is disorted double click on this and the sound will be crystal clear again for 5-10 mins.

I hope this helps you a bit.

jimaul, click here and check whether your card model is supported or not. BTW, are you the one who sent me PM with Natit problem too?

EDIT2: OK, This problem gets solved if you remove applehda and Azalia drivers.

a more up to date list can be found here

I posted that list a couple of years ago now, so some of the issues with the partially supported cards have been fixed, and I've also listed known non-working cards to clear up some confusion

I thought of it being outdated but since the issue was related to "Live!" series, I thought it wouldn't have mattered (I guess the sound card as Live! 24Bit)

BTW Thanks I needed the updated list!!

EDIT: DH_Stick, some new models were supported from kx for Win (in this link) can you update that page? I've linked your list in my thread (over there)

Hi there everybody, just reporting back

+1 on the 24 bit option

Volume control doesnt works when using the menubar widget, BUT it works when using the volume level in the Sound preference panel.
Mute works from both menubar and prefpanel.

I think this is due to the hardware volume control ?
Im on an Audigy II Platinum here. Leo 10.5.4.

Thanks again !

This might be little offtopic but where can a person create new thread related to OSX? General Discussion? Because OSX Directory is locked.

Is Eugene on vacation again?

You sir, are a Legend!

I am having dire problems with my VIA Azalia in new mobo. Have an SB Live 5.1 lying around. If you can perfect playback/mic in, I will gladly donate some funds to the ongoing cause!

Hello everyone

Hi,
I have always been an avid fan of OS X86. I happened to learn of this forum from another WiKi page; and what a sweet surprise! I always knew it in my heart that there were tons of UNIX gurus out there doing wonderful things in their spare times. Looks like today I found some more.

Thank you

Hi, I have also been following this avidly since the beginning.. I haven't posted because I don't really have anything to contribute, I haven't found any new bugs, and the driver works much the same on all my 5 emu10k cards, so just posting "me too" seemed a bit lame. The only thing stopping me from adopting this driver full-time is the sound degradation bug. If this were fixed, regardless of features, bit-depth, channels working etc I would be using this 24/7 as my main audio driver. and thus more likely to have something useful to contribute. I am absolutely certain that the same goes for hundreds if not thousands of other users. So: at risk of being the lamer who begs for a new release, please, focus on that one thing, and I'm certain that feedback from people after hours, days, weeks of use will start flooding in.

And most of all: thanks so much for even doing this, it's possibly the most brilliant thing to happen to osx86 sound capabilities EVER.

Hagar. (insanelymac)

Don't bother - there's no X-Fi drivers for OSX - give it up.

Eugene, about that clicking on 8/32 bit solution - maybe you make it as temporary workaround (insert the code that will do inside action ofr this event every 120 sec)? Cause its tiring bug and DSP porting can take quite a time, as I understand...

why will you ask for such thing? Any automatic workaround will crash media apps. The best is as always "wait for stable"
