What do you want to see from ATI's drivers in the future? [POLL VERSION]

So, here is the requested poll version of ATI driver suggestion thread. Stuff like speed/stability isn't included in the poll, since ATI already knows we want that, don't they?
So, tick the ones you care about and leave the ones you don't care about. Feel free to add more, as I have probably forgotten something.
Quote:
* INSTALLATION: Improved installer, with GTK2 and QT frontends instead of GTK1; improved fglrxconfig, that touches only the minimum it needs
* CONTROL PANEL: Improved Control Panel or ported CCC, that allows to configure everything that is possible, replacing fglrxconfig as much as possible, with both GTK2 and QT frontends, and options comparable to windows version (forced FSAA and Aniso, etc.)
* CONFIGURATION: ~/.drirc configuration (different settings for different apps)
* OVERCLOCKING: Overclocking options in Control Panel, with options such as POWERPLAY and OVERDRIVE
* KERNEL-LEVEL: Deprecation of internal agpgart, submitting the patches to kernel; better compatibility with radeonfb kernel driver, no MTRR conflicts/overlaps when using radeonfb (or even vesafb) kernel driver, make DRI work even when DRM is enabled in kernel
* X/DRI: add RENDER, DAMAGE, COMPOSITE, EXA, xgl support, fix 2D issues
* OpenGL: Support for more extensions
* COMPATIBILITY: Better compatibility with WINE and Cedega
* TV/DISPLAY: HDTV and SDTV resolutions, improved multi-monitor support
* PLATFORM SUPPORT: FreeBSD and OpenSolaris driver

To clarify some stuff:
  • KERNEL-LEVEL: Deprecation of internal agpgart (I had the same idea some time ago, but forgot to cry somewhere )
  • X/DRI: EXA and 2d fixes
  • OpenGL: Not really the support of more extensions, but elimination of known opengl bugs
  • COMPATIBILITY: shouldnt be a problem when ati fixes the opengl bugs and transgaming learns to code not only for "nvidia bugs"
It should not be extra work to develop for cedega, but when it helps to get a better opengl driver...it is ok. I hope there is some kind of dialogue between transgaming and ati, so nothing "wrong" will be adopted to get some game in cedega working.
[edit]jec0s said something about 16bit mode which is really a point I forgot when I read "WINE/Cedega Compatibility". It is really something which isnt covered by other points[/edit]

I put a multi-selection poll because it would be totally pointless to limit everyone to just one option. However, as jec0s says, please don't select all

I suggest selecting 3-4 options at most.

I haven't tried it due to the conflict between fglrx and radeonfb; it's one feature down, many to go, but progressing, I guess
Now, if we could only configure it via control panel (like in Windows Catalyst), that would be really nice.

I don't know how to add more. Perhaps I'm blind. Perhaps insufficient permissions. But the single most important feature request for me is:

* Laptop support: allow suspending _and_resuming_ of the computer without fglrx freezing the computer (see ati.cchtml.com/show_bug.cgi?id=9 ...yes it's an old request)

Thats what DRICONF is for! (it works for now)

Sorry to barge-in I have to get this off my chest:

Screw any control panel for now!! get the driver working first. Atleast get it on par with nvidia as to number of games it can run solidly ..

Tired of seeing "This game won't work on ATI cards" "16bit mode??? hrmmm"

Please get this priority straight!

Thank you

True enough, but afaik it's only for vsync.

Hopefully we'll be able to set fsaa and aniso options via driconf as well - which is what the option is about imo
But that only becomes valid when the driver supports these

Speaking of 8.16 drivers, did ATI do anything related to resolutions support. I ask because my xorg.conf has only "1280x800" entry, and it works OK when using "ati" instead of "fglrx".

However, once I switch to fglrx (by changing *only* that line), I can only use "1280x768", "1024x768", "800x600" and "640x480", even I *have*not* specified any of them in xorg.conf, but only "1280x800".

How so?

I definitley think the internal AGPGART needs to be deprecated/removed...gives me and many others nothing but trouble. Submit the changes to the lkml!

Though, I'd kill to see CCC ported to Linux in Mono

That'd have to be postponed until they get all the CCC options working in the driver first ...

I'd like to see fglrxconfig finally being able to recognize my Xpress200M !!
It seems to be the same fglrxconfig version present in the 8.14 about six months ago...

It's been impossible for me to make my Xpress200M work in my laptop, but I think now it could be a problem of getting the right xorg.conf.

New drivers have something called aticonfig, IIRC. Perhaps you should give it a shot. I can't really say since I always edit my xorg.conf by hand.

There is absolutely no reason you shouldnt be able to install the driver. The installer should work fine. BUT its up to the linux distrubition to later package that driver in their repository and distribute it however they handle packages. If you can't install it, then you either need to change your distro to a more popular one like ubuntu, or learn more about how linux handles packages, and how to configure X.

fglrxconfig shouldnt be trying to detect the card(it might be but I doubt it). All it does is go through options of what you want in your xorg.conf..
I think your issue is with your distro(which is most likley b/c your running 64bit which is foolish IMO if your running a primary machine like a laptop) and not with the ati driver, unless someone here with a Xpress200m and a different distro can prove me wrong.

Well, I use Ubuntu 5.10 AMD64 version and it and ATI drives have some problems... :P *not a linux guru* the how-to that I read in ubuntu forums was helpful but, for some reason I couldn't install the drivers right... I think it's because the installer didn't recognise my card right... but I'll do clean install in next week so let's hope for the best
