Please help

Hello all. I'm sorry if this is already discussed somewhere else. I did a search and didn't come up with much.
To the business.
I have a Radeon 9800 Pro and had the latest working drivers. I used Yum to install this and all was well. I even checked the Ati control to see the drivers being used and it was correct. Well, just now i installed the latest 1.32b quake 3 linux patch to correct the no sound error. Went to start it up and boom, it said there was no OpenGL driver. Well, I checked my current drivers and they had been reverted back to Mesa's. I can't install the ati drivers by Yum agian because its already installed and I can't remove them because they're in use. So, how can I remove them and then install the rpm that i have on my desktop.

Edit: I forgot to mention that when the kernal boots up and initializes everything. It says something about a fglrx.ko missing or something.

--------------------

Ok, so a new twist to the situation. Well, I read somwhere that in order to remove the video drivers you have to go into text mode. I did just that and it still gives me that it is needed for the kernel. Also, when I go to install the latest ati drivers which are supposed to be compatible with the new kernel as of today, it gives me a whole list of conflicts and wont install them. Anyone got any ideas?

well, i appreciate your reply. you are the only person that replied to my post out of 3 forums :X 2 of which are linux - fedora distro - help forums. heh, lots of love there. but anyway, some how i got the other ati drivers removed except ym old ones but they arent compatible with the new kernal and it loads the Mesa default drivers. I've tried installing the new ones but they dont even install and i dont know how to compile a driver into a kernel...so im lost. :X

ive tried something similar to that but my kernel version is newer, its kernel-2.6.12-1.1398_FC4.
i think the problem comes from the new drivers from ati. :X

Edit: no luck on compiling :X

ok guys....update on my succes story. I unloaded all of my previous drivers. did a --force on the new drivers. still didnt work. i had been hearing some good news about KDE being better than Gnome, so i gave it a try. Well, my Ati drivers were recognized with KDE. I ran a timedemo four in quake 3 and it topped out at 455.7 FPS.

My system is:
Intel P4 3.4GHz w/ HT
2x512mb DDR400 Kingston RAM
Ati 9800 Pro 128mb DDR
160GB Seagate
120GB Maxtor
2-Seagate Raptors(120GB each) running RAID 0
