Rate ATI Proprietary Linux Driver 8.16.20 only (August 17, 2005)
As per every two months, rate the new Linux driver release, from 1 = worst to 10 = best.

vsync doesn't work anymore - or the setting changed from
Code:
Option "Capabilities" "0x00000800"
So it get a 4 maximum as LCD users really really need vsync.
If someone can tell me how to get vsync to work then the drivers get a 9 as they have cured a few other issues that have been documented which I have experienced
EDIT: OK - it works
vsync howto
If I could, I'd change my vote to an 8
I'll vote 9 when radeonfb works without issue with fglrx and 10 when fsaa and aniso options work via /etc/drirc or ~/.drirc

There is a note with ati-drivers-8.16.20 ebuild that says: "8.16.20 seems to have too many issues." Is the issue that UberLord expirienced only that is referred to or?

I am always curious to hear from people who find these drivers unusable.. they vote '1' but they never post their problems so that we can help

My gut feeling is that it causes lockups with the radeonfb kernel driver.
Can't use vesafb-tng as it don't work on amd64 and vesafb standard only does 16M colours and no refresh rates.
radeonfb would and should be perfect for ATI cards - but locks, screen corruption, etc.
ATI - either fix fglrx to work with radeonfb or fix radeonfb to work with fglrx!
Makes sense to me anyway .....

Well let me help you out here ;-)
1. I have never succeded in getting 3D to work, always hangs my machine !!!
2. The latest drivers kind of work, except that starting up Xorg 6.8.2 (init 4, to a KDE login) makes my system hang. telnet from another machine I always see the X process taking all available CPU cycles.
IMHO the drivers have gotte worst since I started - about 3 versions ago. Back then I was often able to run fglrx_gears, both 2D & 3D, but never a 3D game :-( Now having switched to a 2.6.10 kernel I find that I apparently have to stick with the 8.14.13, the 8.16.20 won't compile. And with a 2,6,13 kernel and the 8.16.20 - see above.
If you are interessted in my configuration, after the ranting above, let me know and I'll make them accessible on my server. Or drop me an e-mail at ib |at| hojme |dot| dk
TIA, best regards
Ib

Hmmmm, somehow I'm able to vote again!
Gave em a 9 even with the radeonfb issues.

It would be best to post your configuration and config files/logs in a new thread, so that people may be able to help you, and apart from that, maybe someone else with the same problem can also find a solution.
