Problems (errors) with cchtml.com wiki for Feisty

Hi Folks,
I'm new here so be gentle. I have been using the cchtml.com wiki with great success on various flavors of Ubuntu up to now. I have been trying to install the latest 8.40.4 drivers on a Feisty install and when I try the command

Code:
debconf libstdc++5 linux-headers-generic
Code:
debconf: DbDriver "passwords" warning: could not open /var/cache/debconf/passwords.dat: Permission denied
Can't exec "libstdc++5": No such file or directory at /usr/share/perl/5.8/IPC/Open3.pm line 168.
open2: exec of libstdc++5 linux-headers-generic failed at /usr/share/perl5/Debconf/ConfModule.pm line 58
My guess is there is a typo or missing info in the commands up to this point. I don't know enough the command line to figure it out, so I am asking your help.
As I said before I use the wiki all the time with dapper and edgy with great success to install updated drivers or reintall with a kernel update. I'm stumped as to what is going on here.

A little background, for what it's worth. My machine is an Acer Aspire 5672WMLi notebook with 2 GB of DDR ram and the ATi Mobility Radeon X1400 graphics card.

I know you folks will have an answer for me so thank you in advance. Help.

UPDATE: Finally realized that some of the commands in the wiki are two or more lines so restored my feisty install with partimage and tried again. Appeared to be successful. Upon reboot, however, broken X. It is a good thing I have mastered partimage and have a up to date image of Feisty on file.
Something still isn't right with the wiki for Feisty.

BTW. Other versions of the instructions don't contain the ambiguities that the Feisty set has. Maybe there is something else missing.

Hi folks,
Since no one here appears to know what is wrong with the wiki instructions for installing the latest ATi drivers for Feisty Ubuntu (method 2) and/or care, I did a little experimenting on my own. It seems that the first step should be to use the restricted driver manager in system>administration>Restricted Driver Manager to remove the restricted drivers. Then proceed with the rest of the instructions. After reboot revisit system>administration>Restricted Driver Manager and re-enable the restricted driver and reboot. You will now have the 8.39.4 driver as well as the control panel. If you use the 8.40.4 driver GoogleEarth won't work, although the command "glxinfo" shows DRI activated.
It does appears that the 8.40.4 drivers indeed won't work with GoogleEarth as reported by others, but the earlier 8.39.4 drivers do.

As I just happend to have the earlier drivers saved I just ran the commands with the references to 8.40.4 changed to 8.39.4 and succeded in installing the earlier version of the driver as well as the amdcccle control panel. Hope this helps folks that may have struggled with this issue.

BTW, it helps that I have a Partimage backup of my Feisty install. This allows me to experiment as much as needed with little or no pain.

Thanks.
