Another month, another release from ATI. Here's a part from the release notes:

Interesting, they haven't fixed "Attempting to use 3D applications on Radeon 9000/9100/9200/9250 and FireGL 8x00 products fails to start and reports back something similar to “[fglrx] API ERROR: could not register entrypoint for SelectTextureSGIS”. Further details can be found in topic number 737-22637"
and Remi Collet claims to had it working on 9250 (and even run glxgears, as far as I understand French).

About time they got support for xorg-7.1
This is good news as Gentoo is holding back making 7.1 stable X server on Gentoo for x86 and amd64 because nVidia and ATI proprietry drivers didn't support it. Now at least ATI does - one down, one to go

The fact that no 3D chip maker aside from Intel wants to open specs of current hardware for a working open source driver kinda hinders development.

One option discussed was to mark 7.1 stable on x86 and amd64 and let the users p.mask 7.1 if they need to. I feel this is the correct route to take, but it was not chosen. Ah well. The fact that no 3D chip maker aside from Intel wants to open specs of current hardware for a working open source driver kinda hinders development.

So for a FC5 distro, I would select Custom, & then Generate Distribution Specific Driver Package? Then select Generate ATI Packages? Is that correct or will Automatic catch FC5 & then do what needs to be done?

I'm trying to get an ATI AIW X1900 to work with a Syntax LT37HVS LCD (http://secure.syntaxgroups.com/produ...sp?pid=LT37HVS) on Ubuntu 6.06.1. I can get the video to work at various resolutions and get ~9000 fps with glxgears. The problem is that I can't get the desktop to fill the entire screen i.e., there is a black band around all the edges. Iff I change the resolution to 1920x1080 (in xorg.conf) then it uses the full screen, but the desktop is larger than the screen i.e., I'm missing content from around all the edges.
I can use an MSI K8NGM2-FID based on Nvidia 6150 chipset and it fills up the screen at 1280x720 resolution with this modeline: Code:
ModeLine "1280x720_60.00" 74.5 1280 1336 1472 1664 720 721 724 746 -hsync +vsync I'm using: linux-restricted-modules-2.6.15-26-amd64-k8 2.6.15.11-3 xorg-driver-fglrx 7.0.0-8.25.18+2.6.15.11-3 fglrx-control 8.25.18+2.6.15.11-3 Code:

Since > 8.25.18, I haven't been able to use the drivers as they make the LCD screen on my LG LW65 go wonky - almost like it is being overdriven. I can launch X, watch movies, go full screen just fine, but the second I try to change resolutions (launch game ie Tuxracer, ZSNES) etc., I get the screen corruption. If is switch between VTYs with Ctrl-Shift-F1 and then back to F7 a few times, I can sometimes get it to clear up. Sometimes, I have to kill X and then from the corrupt VTY, relaunch it to get it to clear up. This is preventing me from using the newer drivers and the newer versions of X.
Any ideas? |
