Radeon XPress 200M with drivers other than 8.13.4

Has anyone gotten the XPress 200M working with driver versions other than 8.13.4? I have an HP zv6000 laptop, and I've been using the 8.13.4 drivers on Slackware with only a few problems.

Those problems have gotten a little annoying though. DRI won't work after resume from suspend (it used to freeze but I wrote a script that fixes that), and I've had to put a block in slapt-get to avoid upgrading to X.Org 6.9 since this driver version only supports X.Org 6.8.

No version of the driver other than 8.13.4 will work for me. Every time a new driver is released, I try it out and it just freezes the laptop. The Kororaa XGL demo CD (both versions) did this too. While sticking with 8.13.4 works okay for now, I would like to be able to upgrade X.Org eventually since 7.0 is required for XGL, and this means I'd need to upgrade. If the upgrade happened to fix 3D support on resume that would be all the better.

Has anyone had any luck running the XPress 200M with newer drivers? The release notes for 8.24.8 say that it's supported, but all it does for me is freeze my laptop

My configuration: HP Pavilion zv6000 running Slackware -current (except held back X.Org to version 6.8.2) and kernel 2.6.11.11

I'm running on FC5 x86_64 using the 8.25.18 driver set right at the moment with the very same model of laptop you've got. I've been running them for a while now, but they've got...issues... Since the 8.13.4 driver version Sideport support just up and totally vanished on the Linux drivers for some bizarre reason. The only way you can get their drivers to work at all is to turn off Sideport and go UMA only at the very obvious expense of performance. Running any other way confuses the drivers and you get a hang every time. It's been repeatedly reported to ATI as being a problem, but it never seems to get fixed- which I would like for them to do so; with Sideport turned on, it runs faster in Windows, even if you're using a UMA mix with it.
