can wine run remote desktop connection(the one wms provides for the os's besides xp)?

Yeah - although you may need to use VNC as that removes any reliance on an X-Server

Basically it allows users to connect and control each others desktops under windows
Under *nix it allows remote connections to spawn new X sessions and not interfere with the current users desktop
