What text editor do you use?
I personally use vim, but I like nedit too.

I still use vi for most stuff...gedit works well for quick smb.conf changes...about all I ever do is config files so my demands aren't to high and vi just comes naturally.

i'll go out on a limb here and say that i like nano for quick editing, and emacs for more advanced stuff

I like nano but there are some small problems with long lines.
I use emacs most of the time.

Emacs can be found here
http://www.gnu.org/software/emacs/
Nano can be found here
http://www.nano-editor.org/
Note that these are probably packaged with your distribution.
For Debian: nano is included by default in woody. If not included just type "apt-get install nano emacs", that should do the trick if apt is well configured.
For rpm based distros, search your cd's for a package called like nano.rpm or emacs.rpm with a version number.

Good ol' Emacs' my editor of choice for Linux. I even have the Windows port version installed, but it doesn't beat TextPad.
