Dual booting Linux/Windows

I was considering about getting Ubuntu because of the better security than Windows. But I was wondering if while using Ubuntu, viruses could still infect my Windows partition. Because then there would really be no point in using Linux.

I am from the line of thought that AV and a decent firewall should be used irregardless of the OS used ... even Linux.

(To answer your question I think the answer is yes)

You can always mount it readonly and not worry about it.
