benefits of linux, what makes you use it?

...... well i'm learning unix at home.. windows is to much of a problem (a pain), to be honest....

... while we are on the topic of linux, is it possible to view a page on unix,,,, ( let me start to explaine form the begingin).... i have a friend who is a manager of a local branch of a huge company so his server is online 24/7.... its running fedora core (not sure which 1), and he has given me access remote, unix access, so what i wanted to do is log on to his server, through putty or something, then have the sever download me some anime (love it, dont ask

) but is there any unix accelerator,

On Windows based systems we used this to have my singer who was on dialup in a rural area cue his sister's Puter to DL from mine for music on Serv-u.

Linux is a bit different but reading on it and included the link in case it helps.

nah,,, it refused to work!!!, set up a web browser "thing",,, so i login into his server using https, works well, very happy now

, i can download tons'.. thanks fo r the help though, will try and set up a ftp server, somewhere else,..
