Why choose Linux?

I've been running XP and other Microsoft OSes for ages now. I've played around with Linux once, and I found it neat. Now besides being "neat". Is there a reason why I should give Linux a go? I mainly use my PC for gaming, but I'm always willing to try something new. I found Mandrake 9.1. Is this a good version of Linux to start with? Their site says it is Suggestions people? I'm planning to dual boot with Win XP.

Edit: I thought I found a absolute free way to download Mandrake, but I'm wrong Hmm...

IF you play UT2003, UT, Quake1-3, RTCW or Never Winter Nights then go with it as there are free native Linux ports for these games

However, other games don't support Linux and have no plans to.
Some up and coming games will support Linux - like Dues Ex 2 for example.

However, for the gamer who plays other games then I would say dable with Linux on a 2nd partition and keep windows on the 1st. Thats what I do and it works really well. I use Linux for everything except playing a Windows ony game
