What do you think is the Best "Day to Day" Linux Distro?
I've been testing the heck out of Linux lately, in virtual machines mainly, and was wondering what people think is the best Linux Distribution for day to day use.
I have come down on the side of Suse Linux 10.2. Of the current crop I think it strikes the best balance.
If you don't mind contributing to the thread, what do you think, and why?
I say Gentoo because if you have the knowhow to get it working properly, and if you compile it from scratch, the level of customizability is very very good, not to mention the performance benefits you can achieve by stripping out all kinds of stuff you don't use
I would define best day to day usability as something that's really stable, customized as much as possible for your personal preferences, and above all else fast. To me, Gentoo meets those standards.

Good points, all.
I'm gonna download Gentoo and try it in my virtual machine.
Who'd of thought the Core 2 Duo based iMac would be so totally flexible?
I do wish there were more Linux fans / users on DH so we could chat up a storm, but I guess it hasn't made that big of an impact here yet.
Well, at least there is still an active Babe Thread...
I have been a big fan of Debian lately. It was the first distro to include working TeX Live 2005, so I gave it a shot and understood I really like it. Fedora is really good, but Debian (unstable or testing of course) is my favourite now.
A nice way to check out gentoo is to try Sabayon
It's very polished and runs live from cd/dvd too.
I almost stuck with it but I just don't feel comfortable enough
with my knowledge of linux to use such a complicated distro.
In another year perhaps
