Welcome
Word from Zardon is that this section was a top request in the first days of DH so here it is! I'm a longtime Unix hound (Eunich? yikes) and know linux reasonably well (RH and Mandrake flavors mostly). Unfortunately most of my recent experience is from a file server side so please don't ask me for too much direct help. My only partition at home is Mandrake 8 with Mesa (voodoo5) and Vortex drivers and it doesn't get used much.
Please remember to include your distribution when posting questions since the locations of files varies quite considerably between them (thanks RH)!
Also, remember that most solutions will require that you installed "developer" stuff (gcc and libs) so if you're a newbie installing Mandrake for the first time, be sure to configure it for development. I think most other distributions install compilers and libs by default.

I mess around with Linux a good bit. I run a server with Linux on it, so I've got a good bit of experience with that type of thing. I'm not too up to date on the video driver situation for Linux, but I'll do my best with any Linux questions that you people ask.

I also have some experience of Linux stuff for the past 6 years. I'm not too update with the video stuff either as my recent rigs have used cards unsupported by Linux - but my new 8500 looks like its getting there with the latest DRI stuff.
I also run a web/email/ftp/sql server at work, along with 2 smoothwalls (linux distro for pure firewall boxes)
Well, that makes 4 Linux helpers so far

Helpers in need of problems to solve
I've configured various distribs to work with V3, V5 (which I think only used one of the VSA-100 chips), G400, Vortex and SB cards, but lately most of what I do is simple samba configuration stuff...my linux uptime is averaging 8-9 months (and those are elective restarts) vs. 1-2 months for Novell and even worse for my old NT4 server. Too bad StarOffice is going commercial; I had high hopes of putting linux on some corporate desktops in the future.

Checkout OpenOffice
Sun use this as a source-base and then re-brand it StarOffice.
Kinda like a NutScrape-Mozilla thingie
Now go install it on some corp desktops

I'm here to help too! Actually, Andrew was the first to start me off on linux for serving my old highping.net site at home. Then I progressed and with the help of some other Rage3D'ers (Ratchet and Chicane-UK) became more interested. Now, I am a linux network/systems admin in a primarily windows office. I have recently switched their servers over to SuSE linux servers and mail servers.
I also am a huge gamer and currently have Q3A, UT, RTCW all running under linux "without" wine using the latest DRI drivers. I must say that all three run faster in linux than windows.
My distro is SuSE linux 8.0

Is that using the 8500? If so I might have to pull the latest DRI from CVS. Wonder how long thats gonna take over ISDN...
