Acer 1691WLMi - Shattered Audio output

hi
I have the Acer notebook 1691WLMi and I am experiencing the problems like slow CPU, shattered audio output when i play any song / movie stored on Hard disk. but audio works fine if i play CD/DVD. This all started last week when my notebook hang while copying data between disk partitions.

On searching web, i feel that this is the issue with CPU speed registry.
Could anyone please guide me how to resolve this issue regarding CPU speed registry settings.

I have experienced this myself after I had problems installing a new game due to a bad disc, resulting in the need for a reboot.
Sound was crackling, everything was dead slow as though the cpu was set to its slowest setting.

I believe something got screwed up in the registry, and I ended up solving the problem by installing a previously saved ghost image which I had made a few days before. Sorry I cannot be more specific in the actual cause, but its got to be something in the registry that got corrupted.
