i disasembled my area 51m before.. it was chaos on my desk
good thing i remembered where everything went.. but i disasembled it in the first place because when i cleaned the heatsink something made the fans not spin. causing the laptop to overheat immidiately and shut down..
... ironic

very neat thread. I'll get a Sony Vaio FS series [they all work the same] guide together this week, as well as some pentium 4 Dell [whatever my unsuspecting roommate has anyways] this week.

If I get these guides together, would you be interested in using them on your site there, cj?

If so, PM me and lemme know how you'd like em....word document perhaps?

I could write books on this stuff if I had a cmaera at work, but I think they'd frown on that, plus laptops often get skud as rush orders, meaning time is of the essence...lol

Some laptop chassis actually have a screw beneath the bottom panel to lock the optical drive in place...I THINK my sony is one of them...if so, I'll get you a picture this week of what I mean

If I remember correctly, the metal plate you are talking about is the DVD drive itself. After you remove the DVD drive (open the drive up as shown in the picture, pull, and remove) you will see the last 3 screws.

I've always found that a hammer works great for disassembling any model lap top.
Not bad for desk top either.
re-assembling is a biatch though.

(sorry too much caffine today)

Help...
I NEED to upgrade my dvd burner on my Toshiba Satellite P15-S479. The current burner is a Matshita UJ 811 (P.O.S.) It has been replaced 3 times by toshiba (with the same model burner). My warranty has expired and i am once again getting IO errors. Time to upgrade, can you advise what burners are compatible with this laptop? Thanks
Also, do i set the new dvd burner to master or slave and how do i do it?

fujitsu siems life book c series

hey guys, i really need your help. actually, i'm having trouble to disassemble my fujitsu siemens lifebook c series, not a recent PC, a pentium 3.
actually, the place where I have to plug in the recharging adapter, it's loose, meaning in the laptop, the support has ben dislodged something like that.
To make myself clear, it's just that I cannot plug in the adapter as it do not hold.
So, I've to disassemble it and do some welding if possible.
So, would somebody please help me how to disassemble it as even that I've removed all the screws, there's something which is restraining it from opening up and I don't want to force it otherwise I risk of breaking something. so, I won't take that luck.
I'm hoping that you guys, experts in this field, could give me a helping hand with it.
Thanks.
