System Specs

The IBM's can accept other mini-pci cards from other manufacturers, but you will need to remove the card and the driver before installing the new one. The new driver installation procedure is different for different operating systems.

About your "lock", here is a link to your units Hardware Maintenance Manual - the information should be in there...

Information about how to change the mini-pci card is in there too.

IBM_X40_GUY is on a distinguished road

I too have an IBM X40 laptop with the Intel 2100 b mini pci card. While it seems to work fine, I'm wondering if I would see a range improvement if I replaced the card with a Intel 2100 b/g card? They are available on eBay for around $25 plus shipping.

Has anyone actually replaced one of these cards in a X40 and if so, how difficult would you rate the job? Also, is there an antenna lead that plugs in or do you just have to slip the replacement mini card in? Also, is there additional software that needs to be loaded?

Thanks for any info.

Chuck
