Did you format your laptop recently? If so, do you have all the drivers installed for your laptop?
How about trying the normal Catalyst 4.8s? Maybe they'll work.
OR
Try installing WMP10 and updating your PowerDVD.

It's been reported before; see here:
DVD playback very very slow with Omega 4.7
It seems to be a problem with the Catalyst 4.8 drivers. 4.7 based drivers work OK if you use Mobility Modder, but not with the Omega drivers. This may be because Omega put some of the 4.8 features in his 4.7 release (I'm guessing).

Far as i know with lap tops if you want all the feature to work properly you need to use the sets from your lap top maker.... no matter how old
your other option is to mod a set of drivers your self each time they are released... useing the .infs from your mfg's site
just becouse they are driver from ati doesn't ment they were ment to work on your patciular laptop the way they are set up... theats why they hve to be moded in the first place...other wise you'd have drivers downloadable from the ati web site....wich is not the case....
I'd expect fixes and extra problems... it been this way for agesd all you can do is cry to my laptop maker to please update your drivers at lest once a year . If I were you I'd work on it myself, it's not that hard....

I just mod the original ATI drivers. They work fine for my laptop. HP actually does do some regular updates to their laptop drivers, surprisingly.

Mobility Radeon DVD Video playback problems
Radeon Mobility 9600/9700 DVD/Video playback problems with all ATI drivers after Catalyst 4.5 and all Omega's after 2.5.44. Do me a favor and do not reformat/re-install to solve this problem.
Please read the latest Omega 2.5.76 "readme" file. This is what Omega has to say on the issue:
"Known bugs:
* Laptop video playback problem still here, see notes.
* Hibernation and Standby are not working properly, I'm working on a fix.
Important Notes:
1. Mobility users beware, these drivers don't support overlay video acceleration on some chipsets, specially in Sager notebooks with 9600 and 9700 Mobility cards. Other cards may be affected, but I haven't confirmed the bug on them. The last driver set that doesn't have this problem are my 2.5.44 drivers. Sorry for any inconveniences, I'm working on a fix for this matter, but all my tests show that this is an ATI related bug in the drivers and it doesn't have to do with any of the settings on my drivers."
.................................................. ..................................................
Rescuecheck: Please pay close attention to the part where Omega says, "All my tests show that this is an ATI related bug in the drivers..."
If you want to fix this problem, you must sacrifice game performance and downgrade to Catalyst 4.5's or Omega 2.5.44's. Or, you can sacrifice DVD/Video playback and run the latest modded drivers. I recommend that anyone experiencing this problem contact their notebook manufacturer and demand that they work together with ATI to solve this problem so that we are not stuck using old drivers for the life of our notebooks.
For the record, there have been four driver releases and ATI has not fixed this issue. Also, notebook manufacturers provide tech support for notebook drivers....this doesn't mean they make the drivers. In the case of Hypersonic, my Aviator GX7 shipped with Omega 2.5.44's directly from Hypersonic.

I have an Asus notebook with mobility 9600Pro.
No video playback issues using omegas, and 4.8/4.9 catalyst drivers.
This problem appears to only affect certain vendor mobility cards?

The video playback problem seems to be related to Clevo's. Hypersonic GX7, VoodooPC Envy, Falcon Northwest Fragbook, Sager NP8790.
Sager is being honest and has posted a warning in the form of a readme file with their new 8.04 driver, which I believe is a Catalyst 4.8 equivelent.
This is what Sager has to say to customers who decide to upgrade to the newest driver:
" "This particular posting updates the ATI Display Driver to version 8.04. Though the new driver has increased the performance and improved the display quality, there are known issues associated with this latest version of display driver.
Known Issues
- During DVD movie playback the picture may be choppy or may not even appear.
This issue is under investigation. There is no solution available at this time. If gaming is not your primary objective, switch back to version 8.0 is advised for both gaming and DVD playback"

Omega drivers 2.5.9.0
If you havent got the latest drivers from Omega, get them v 2.5.9.0 these in my opinion are the best ones with the video playback issue reseolved. Also It didnt affect all Clevo's it was a software bug that caused this.
If u have any issued with 2.5.9.0 note that they are based on new Beta drivers which are not even released yet. It has a world exclusive AI feature which improves games, read up more on omegadrivers.net

Hi boys.
Also my Asus A2526KUH present the video playback problem both with Catalyst 4.9 by Ati and Omega and the lastest Omega 2590.
A possible way to bypass the problem is to disable the hwacceleration in the display proprieties panel.

Sager Users! DVD playback issues w/Mobility Modder and Sager's Doom III solution
From the beginning:
Doom III wouldn't play on my Sager np5680 (see below for specs) for longer than five minutes before kicking out. At the same time as downloading Catalyst 4.10 and Mobility Modder (thanks CPU mag for the reference), I wrote Sager on what they would do for us Sager owners concerning Doom III.
Then, later that night:
I installed the modded Catalyst 4.10. Doom III worked like a charm, relatively speaking. Then I tried to play a DVD, and bam, it locked up my computer. I had to go back to the sager provided drivers.
Today:
Sager got back to me. They attached a BIOS update file for my laptop, making my computer say it was a 5690 with a ATI 9700, and subsequently advised me to download the current drivers for that model. Unfortunately, I sent my floppy disk drive back home (I'm deployed in Iraq), so I won't be able to try this solution until later.
Maybe the Omega drivers will work, although since scanning posts about this DVD playback problem, it be a Sager laptop bug and independent of Omega drivers or the Mobility mod.
Any ideas?
Junipero
Sager NP5680
P4 3.2 Ghz
1024 MB RAM
ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 (previous drivers identified it as the Mobility M10, then Mobility Radeon 9600 PRO TURBO)
8x DVD/32x CD-RW drive
WinDVD 4
WMP9
WinXP SP1
P.S. any Sager owners been having problems with USB port sockets breaking? I've broken 3 already. i'm down to one.

Original drivers would not work for WMP9 for me. Everytime I tried to play a DVD it would hard lock forcing me to powerdown to reboot. I just happened to have Power DVD5 which came with the puter which would work, for awhile, but started doing the same thing. I figured I'd give the (at that time 4.10's) a try with the mobile modder which cured the problem, I think. The reason I say I think, shortly after that time I also decided to go with SP2 and shortly after that, I upped to WMP10 and have never had the problem since, but in between the time of upgrading with SP2 and WMP10 the problem never surfaced, but to be honest that was only a few weeks of use before upping to SP2 and WMP10 so it could have been the new drivers, SP2 or WMP10 or a combination of all that cured it for me.

I know this is an old old thread but I had this issue spring up in the last 2 days. I had a number of video issues while playing WoW and after working with PowerNotebooks.com, the company i bought my laptop from, I upgraded my video drivers using the ATI mobility drivers. At this point the video issue arose =(
Well after working through the issue with PowerNotebooks.com, we contacted Sager and notified them about the issue. After a little wait I got a response back stating a BIOS upgrade had been written to resolve my issue and is only available via request. Well it worked =-)

Welcome to the forums gwyden!
This should be the first thing lappy owners try when having problems with video playback and newer driversets. The issue is documented here in the forums but not so well stated - thanks gwyden.

I'm sure this problem has been solved before but I need some help. I have a Hypersonic GX6 9600 and I have the choppy video problem. I'm forced to rollback my drivers to Omega 2.671 everytime I want to watch video. I'd like to be rid of the constant changing of my drivers just so I can watch a movie. Can anyone help me out?
