stretch and maintain aspect ratio??
i just got the compaq r3000t and am having problems with the video card (mobility radeon 9600 128mb). it only gives me the stretch to fill monitor option and not one that would scale the image while maintaining the correct aspect ratio. i tried the stock compaq drivers and the modded catalyst 4.8s, no go for both. whats going on??

Welcome to DriverHeaven!
![]() What 'image' are you trying to stretch? Is this a wallpaper or an in game thing? A little bit more details would help clarify your problem a little bit better.

thanks! sorry for not being clearer. wallpapers and applications are fine, the problem is with video games. when i play a game in 800x600, for example, there are only 2 options: play the game in 800x600 (with black borders on all sides) or play the game in 800x600 but is expanded to fit my native res of 1280x800 (distorted widescreen). I've seen pictures of other control panels where there's an option to stretch the image while maintaining the aspect ratio (play the game in 800x600, but is expanded to maximize the LCD but retain its 4:3 ratio, so there are only 2 black bars, to the left and right)

This may be dependent on games.. I don't know of such a feature in the Control Panel though Hopefully, somebody does.

im pretty sure it's a driver/video bios issue, ive seen pics (http://dbierano.home.comcast.net/options.jpg) of other control panels that have 2 options under "display" - "panel", whereas mine only has the one "scale image to panel size" option

I've just thought of something. Why not try to go back and use the drivers which are supported by your laptop vendor. It's most likely that they will have drivers which have the options you're seeking.
The regular Catalysts which ATI releases do not officially support Mobility chips because some vendors do different things with their hardware. Basically, if you had to use the Mobility Modder to install the Catalysts, then ATI doesn't officially support it. Here are the HP/Compaq sites which contain your laptop drivers and updates. I don't know which model you have exactly, so you'll have to pinpoint: Compaq Presario R3000T (DL273AV) CTO notebook Compaq Presario R3000T (DP218AV) CTO notebook (I doubt there are any major differences between the two models, but I may be wrong. I didn't check.)

yep tried that too. im becoming more convinced that the video card bios prevents this (and powerplay, which i couldnt find anywhere either). its funny, when i called customer support the rep actually advised me to install the omega drivers. gotta say, its a relief talking to someone who can talk in perfect english lol

LOL. Well, if it is the video card's BIOS, what are you going to do about it?

Here you have it:
install the Catalyst 4.8 Suite with the help of the DH Mod Tool right-click on your desktop & select the advanced display properties of your videocard then you need to click on the "displays" tab there you select "panel" & a new window opens up with 2 options to scale your image: *Expand to full panel size *Expand while maintaining aspect ratio the latter option is the one you're looking for ![]() as for the powerplay setting...it's always been there for me... although a bud of mine who also recently purchased a laptop with a mobility 9600 doesn't have the option... quite peculiar indeed ![]() ![]() i also made a screenshot of the panel properties...might be easier ![]()

I can't get it, either. I wonder if it has something to do with the resoution. I'm running at 1280x800 and don't have that option. The two examples I've seen where this option DOES exist are both running at much higher resolutions...
