shuki is on a distinguished road

Sony Vaio k13

Got a good deal on this close out model but am going to upgrade a bit. Stock specs are:
p4 2.8Ghz
533 fsb
512 pc2100 - 64mb shared vid (puke, gag, barf a maggot!)
ati 345
dvd/cd-rw
standard ports etc...

laptop seemed too sluggish to me. I opened up more than 3 apps and performance and response time shot through the roof and I want to fix that!

so first thing I did was format c: and install XP pro getting rid of Sony crap and XP home. That helped quite a lot actually but it stil bogs at times. So, whats next?

A. order more ddr? 1Gb
B. replace this 4200rpm hdd with a 7200rpm hdd
C. just get an external hdd and load all my proggies from there (hassle and bulky)
D. Ebay it and get something better to begin with
E. other?

reason I went with sony was the xbrite tech on the screen but the shared video is a no no and I should have known better. Anyhow, any suggestions to get this thing more responsive when multi tasking?
