Quality Laptop under $1500?

Does anyone know of any quality lap tops that are for under $1500? My mom is looking for one so she assigned me the task of finding her a laptop... basically she just wants to do sowing stuff with it, and run it for e-mail, internet. No gaming or anything. Still she wants the best $1500 can get her.

Anyone got any ideas? I've been researching but have come up with nothing so far.

YEAH! now before you get all up in my face about this brand...let me just say

Compaq

I know its with HP now but my brother got a compaq laptop and it is VERY VERY nice. We havent had any trouble from it and its gorgeous and runs well.

Both are excelent.

DO THE CUSTOMIZATION!!! it takes about 20 days to get to you but you get a better product in the end. seriously.

We have the AMD-64 one. its GREAT!! The intel one has a more powerful graphics card though. get the 128mb one.

But yeah seriously, its got a nice BIG screen with great quality. Hard drive runs okay(noticably slower than a desktop tho). yeah anyway. That is what I suggest.

If you arent comfortable with that...

anything from Toshiba is good. not GREAT. I emphasize that. NOT GREAT. but good. it'll last you for many years. Their stuff is just overpriced IMHO.

I just got a Sony Vaio K13 for $1400. p4 2.8Ghz 512ddr cdrw dvd etc... solid laptop for the money

but you have to ask yourself: "how much did I pay?" Sony is extremely rock solid. They had a rocky start in the beginning just making it TOO thin TOO fast. now its great though.
