HELP PLEASE! Tosh S204-S5803 XP Drivers

** and I already screwed up... a205-s5803 ** Sorry...been a long day!

So this will be my intro to the forum and a shout out for help. I took my moms laptop to get the sluggish ol Vista off, took care of the SATA driver issue, and got it installed with not issues. Now I'm hitting the problem that I've seen from quite a bit of time searching and reading posts that many others have had...can't find the XP Drivers to support all the hardware. Toshiba CA, EU, and USA all have various drivers...and I'm pretty sure at this point I've tryed the whole lot of em. IF anyone can help me figure this out, I'd really appreciate it...this was supposed to be a fairly simple project that's become a huge pain in the @$$.

For now, I'm missing 6 drivers, but only 2 of them are of any concern to me.

1.) Ethernet Controller (I've downloaded EVERYTHING from Toshiba that I can find...but cannot find any info on 3rd party or mobo manufacturer to try other sources)

2.) RTL8187B_WLAN_Adapter (I've downloaded the driver from Realtek, it even came with some utility as well...no go. Tried other versions...still no go.)

The others are the 2 Vid controllers (which I really haven't messed with to say that I can't find, a modem (which I DONT care to find) and an Audio device on high def audio bus.

If anyone can help me get the wired/wireless going that'd be stellar!

First up, welcome to the forums!

Thankfully you can get at least some of the drivers right off of Toshibas website. Not too sure if the link I'm about to post will work as Toshiba runs off sessions, but give THIS link a try. This should get you the main drivers for that laptop, and change the paramaters to show XPSP2 drivers. From this you should be able to get the chipset, Bluetooth, memory card, and modem, as well as Intels wireless drivers for the laptops that have it.

Of note, you mentioned the wireless wouldn't work. Realteks driver for that card off of their site should have worked since their drivers include support for all Windows OS in the one driver. However, be sure to download the driver from the very bottom of THIS page listed for the RTL8187B as it's the one for your card. The only reason it might not work is if the wireless card is something else. In the case of that laptop Toshiba has used 3 different wireless cards: Realtek, Atheros, and Intel over the course of it's life. I would try the Intel drivers linked to in the link I gave above, and post back to let me know if it worked or not.

For the sound driver and the modem driver to work you will first need to install either XP Service Pack 3, or install the KB888111 UAA update to get software driven modems and sound cards to work. The easiest way to do this is to download the Realtek HD audio drivers off of their site since you need them anyways, and part of that download includes the KB888111 update. Once you start the installation for the audio drivers both the modem and the sound card will be recognized as being seen as the KB888111 patch gets installed first, and then it's just a matter of installing whatever drivers you need for each piece after that.

The display driver is a little more tricky. It's either going to be from Intel or ATI/AMD. My guess is it's the Intel GMA X3100, so you give THIS driver a try.

Last one for now is the ethernet controller. Most likely this is the Marvell Yukon driver, and you can get that HERE.

Just to let you know there is a site that might interest you called XPVistaSite. This site has links to various drivers for components for when people go from Vista to XP or vice versa. Over time they also list the drivers needed for specific laptops. Click the laptop you have, and a list of the drivers you need, be it for Vista or XP, are all listed and linked to. However, at the moment yours is not part of that list, but you can go through the various components, and get what you need for your missing devices.

Wonderful Advice- you nailed it all on the head pretty well! I'd solved the network card and wireless about 30 minutes ago and was just coming to update the post. Very impressive thank you!

I'll tell you what else I found to be a life saver... 'driver packs.net'. I couldn't get a slipstream of the drivers to work via their software, but I made a few CD's out of the unzipped the driver files and since they were then searchable off the cd, the laptop started picking off the drivers it needed as I tried to update.

Speaking of a driver CD (and I completely forgot about this thing), that reminds me of a disc you might be interested in called "Windows Drivers CD For XP 2008" (updated as of September 08). No need to slipstream anything as this is a standalone disc that includes drivers for just about everything, and I've found it to be very handy for systems where I don't have drivers for. If you have any other missing drivers you need to find you might want to give that CD a try.

Thanks again! Yes, that looks like something I'll download to keep on hand for next go-around anyway. I think people would much rather spare themselves the hours of browsing for the right driver and utilze the CD your mentioned, or the driver packs... I get the idea that the driver packs are the same thing except you have to create your own ISO out of them, or use their software to create a slipstream. I personally like the ISO CD idea much better.
Might have missed it if its there, but wouldn't that link be good to sticky at the top of the forum?
