Screen switches off after closing laptop

Hi, I have this problem for some time already... And haven't figured out how to solve it...
I'm using ACME laptop with ATI Mobility Radeon x1600 on Vista 32bit.
I installed 8.6 catalyst drivers, downloaded from DriverHeaven, modified with Mobility Modder. Everything seems to be fine, but...
When I close the lid - screen switches off. And I cant switch it on. Only one way - put PC to sleep and wake it up again. At least it's the only way I know about. All preferences in Vista are set properly. I mean - "Lid close action - none" on battery and plugged in, etc.
Uninstalled drivers - everything works fine again. Closing lid does nothing.
It's really annoying :/
Could someone tell me how to fix this problem or how to switch screen on without going to sleep or hibernate? Tried everything... Earlier used 8.5 drivers - same problem.

Hi there and welcome to DriverHeaven!

It does sound like some setting in the power options is not configured correctly. You should be able to change the settings in the power options advanced menu.

Re: Screen switches off after closing laptop

Hello,

Just for anyone trying to solve this problem still, i found that it seems to be a problem with my secondary display ie the external monitor on my laptop even though it dosen't have anything plugged in to it. I think that maybe when you close the lid of the laptop, for some reason it decides that the display has been disconnected and assigns the secondary one to the primary display. so you can use the switch display function key on the laptop to bring the screen back or for a more permanent fix i just disabled the secondary monitor in device manager and now the screen will turn back on when i open the laptop. not sure if the problem is the same for everyone but it worked for me. Hope this helps someone!
