New Qosmio 64 bit with Vista Driver Problems+
I am a global ERP Strategist and have recently purchased a Toshiba Qosmio x305 with 64 bit technology (nice machine) with Windows Vista. Yes you got it, a double whammy. Nearly all of my software such as Office, PS, Visio + loads of other software doesn’t work on this machine. In addition; I cannot obtain a Vista/64 bit driver for my external hp 1040e hard drive. Since I used the 1040e for CD+G on my previous Qosmio 32 bit with XP, I am devastated.
I have purchased all above software over $1200+ and still counting. Can anyone help with a driver for my 1040e?

Hi there and welcome to DriverHeaven!
That drive should work in Vista x64 straight away no drivers needed. Vista should have the built-in driver that would install when you plug the drive to the laptop.

Thanks for your response
My system reads and plays cd’s but doesn’t read CD+G’s. I have tried everything to get it working without success. By the way, the 1040e still works and reads CD+G’s on my old qosmio 32bit with XP

By the way, the device manager describes the DVD as a 1040d i.e. not 1040e

Hmm... I think that WMP needs some 3rd party plug-in to support the CD+G format. I know that it's rather rare so that's why MS might have dropped support for it in Vista.

I suggest you reinstall the operating system because if office, photoshop etc dont work and the machine is not reading USB attached hard drives something is seriously wrong. Vista 64 bit will run office (unless its ancient), photoshop v6+ and there is built in support for hard drives attached to any machine with fat32 and NTFS support, you dont need to do anything (been like that since Windows XP days).
have you ran virus scanners etc?
(also when you type into the box in this forum, dont colour the type, black is unreadable on our default cosmosheaven theme - I edited your posts to default colours).

Thanks everyone for your advice, it’s nice to know there are people out there who are prepared to assist.
I have resolved my driver problem, in fact; is was not the driver, the third party software was not recognizing the DVD player. All I had to do was change the default DVD to the 1040 and it worked o/k, one of those frustrating moments when loading up a new machine.
Thanks again, look forward to chatting with you again
