exclamation HP pavillion zv6000 series problem

Hi guys,
My wife's laptop seems to have gone a bit scatty.
When switched on it randomly decides wether or not to flash up the HP logo. If no logo appears it just sits there doing nothing. If the logo appears it generally goes on to boot windows. But then it randomly freezes after windows has started, generally between 1 to 5 minutes into a session. She's had it working acouple of times over the last week where it hasn't frozen at all.

Strange problem but if anyone could give me an idea of what could be wrong that would be great.

Cheers
Iain

That definitely isn't normal..

How old is this laptop? Has it gotten especially hot over the time that youve had it? How do the power cords to it look? Any visible discoloration on the power pack or anything?

To me it sounds like some type of transformer/batt/power interface issue, or a damaged mb..

It's only 2 years old. It doesn't seem to be the power cord etc as it does it wether it's on battery or power. Never really got hot as is generally on a coffee table or desk at work. Tried changing the memory to the old SODIMMs as I upgraded the RAM a year ago and wondered if it may had gone kapoot, but it didn't make a difference.
