Please help. Cannot back up "anything" onto a disc

I am writing in for my husband, Mike. I know nothing about computers. I hope you can help. We have a Dell Inspiron 1000. The last and only time we tried to load a disc was from I-tunes. The program(computer) let us back up 1 time onto a disc.

Now Mike is trying to put my pictures, from a file, onto a disc and he cannot do it. He worked on different things for a couple of hours last night.
He follows the promts(?) but when he gets to the end it keeps saying to load a disc. The disc is already in the drive. It also makes a clicking noise.

Any ideas? Like I said we have only done a back up disc once before so maybe it's a problem with the computer. Also, ever since we loaded my I-tune library onto a disc, we keep getting a message that we have files to be added to disc. We can never add anything because it doesn't seem to recognize our DVD/RW. My husband couldn't find anything to re-format the disc, if that's the problem.

Thanks,
Lisa

Hi there and welcome to DriverHeaven!

iTunes is Apple's software to play music files, rip CD's, transfer music to iPod and burn audio cd's. You can't use it to burn image files to disc's... What version of Windows you have installed?

If they are using the built-in windows burning feature then the disk may be written DAO session and after it's done the disc is closed. But more info about the program what is used is needed...
