MORE Compaq/HP driver issues

Alright, I have this problem with a Compaq M2000 (M2105US really)... the problem being as follows:

The HP/Compaq support site's drivers are faulty for the graphics, audio, and modem. This particular rig has an ATI Radeon XPRESS 200M audio card/MoBo chipset.

I went to ATI's website and got the catalyst it sent me to when I clicked on that chipset, installed, cool.

Graphics - Check

But, even though this chipset controls the audio as well, I still have no sound.

Any ideas are appreciated, will give donuts.

PS: I realize there was a thread started about this a while ago, but it was basically just a clusterf*** of people complaining, and only 2 solutions were posted. One stating that you should find the real part number and google it to find the real model number, which I did, and another linking to an intel website, which I have no need for, considering the problem is not with an intel chip.

Hi there and welcome to DriverHeaven!

You need to find out what sound chip you have on that laptop to get the sound working. This should be the driver you need : Conexant CX20468-31 AC97 Audio Driver and Audio Driver EQ*Compaq Presario M2105US Notebook PC

[EDIT] make sure that the XP is fully updated before installing that driver

Alright, I'll try that, since the first time I tried to install the drivers from there they didn't work, and so far so good.

ALSO - another problem I found after doing all the driver downloads from the hp support site, is that every time I start the computer up, a driver installation wizard box, like the ones for the conexant Audio and modem drivers, pops up and says "installation successful" with an empty box where it would describe the driver being installed and the return value from the installation script.
It doesn't seem to cause any problems, but this computer is supposed to become "shiny" for my friend, cause she'll give me free coffee if I fix it for her, and I think this would probably put my free coffee counter down a cup or two for annoyances. ^_^

[EDIT] - Okay, that driver, although seemed to work better than last time, what with the installation complete - restart your computer stuff, but the sound still doesn't work. SO - my original stance applies - the HP/Compaq support site drivers DO NOT WORK. And near as I can tell, the audio chipset is a part of the mobo chipset, which is an ati, but I may be mistaken, and the specs I found could be wrong.

They aren't the laptop has a ton of different chips and the Ati chip is just south bridge with built in GPU. And the sound chip is connected to that chip with normal pci bus.

Alright, well I still can't find another place to get these drivers... almost every bullsh*t website I find on google just has a copy of the sotpaq from the HP service website, one that I can't download, too, mind you, unless I accept cookies from a site that I'm not going to trust. Apparently this is a modem/audio combo? The conexant website, although had results when I searched it, the links were all out of date and sent me nowhere.

ANYONE who found drivers for this that work, I would appreciate knowing where you got them.
