VAIO: No Sound After OS Install, Drivers Not Working

Hello to all,

Just recently bought a VAIO laptop for my wife (newer series: VGN-CR320E) and downgraded to XP Pro from Vista.

The only thing that I cannot seem to get working is the sound, of which there is absolutely none, and the RealTek driver that should be working, isn't.

I made restore discs, but they are the Vista drivers, so they wont work.

Before I installed XP Pro and made the discs, I checked, and the onboard audio was listed simply as RealTek High Definition Audio.

Currently, no audio hardware is detected at all on the system. There are two audio codecs listed (Audio Codecs and Legacy Audio Drivers on the system, but no sound, and no audio hardware listed in the system.

I tried installed the WDM_R188 High Definition drivers from RealTek for XP, and all it did was detect that there was onboard audio, and seemed to install, but did absolutely nothing, so I rolled back. Sony has nothing on their site either, as far as I've found.

Can someone help me out?

I've been building desktop gaming rigs for years, but this laptop almost drove me nuts, and I cannot get this sound issue resolved.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks much, and great site!

I need some help, please

Hello, my name is luis rodriguez. I bought a Sony vaio laptop VGN-CR320E, and i tried to downgraded it to Windows XP. I found out that Sony does not support this kind of process.
I tried all by myself. After some time i installed XP on the laptop, but a surprise was that the folder with drivers in C:\Windos\Drivers did not work at all. They were made for Windows Vista somewhat.
Well, I also realized that the DVD/CD was not in the My PC folder.
I really need some guidance, please excuse my english writting, i know it sucks, but please i understand you have installed everything but the sound driver in your laptop. Please i really would be thankfull if you help me.

Thanks for your time reading.

You really should start a separate thread for your specific problems.
I started this thread due to a specific problem with sound, not as a general VAIO thread.

On that note: does the modem driver need to be installed? I've read something that on other laptops the modem driver includes the audio. I just tried reinstalling the RealTek driver, and now I'm getting a pop-up stating that it's looking for/detecting - Modem Device on High Definition Audio.

I'm unclear as to what's going on at this point. As to the quoted post, I got XP working fine. I'm only having problems with the audio.

Hi there!

I think that you need the UAA driver from Microsoft. I can't remember does the realtek driers has that with them... Anyway when downgrading from Vista to XP it's recommended to find out what drivers you would need before installing the OS.
