System Specs

Thinking about getting one later this year.

Sometime this Fall (Europe) I will go back to the university to finish with this degree (last one I promise). Just one year left. After that I will go where there is work for me.
I have the desktop on the left side and though I like it very much, I am having second thoughts about carrying it back to the UK into that tiny room and then...what? So, I wonder if it would be a better move to get laptop.
It would have to be able to play games that are already out today and those out for the next couple of years.
I used to own one (I kinda still have one), a Compaq Presario 2816ea with a Pentium 4 and a Radeon 7500m. It was great when I bought it (2002) but it is no more for obvious reasons. The thing is it cost me a fortune (for my wallet) and I find it difficult to persuade myself to find the money for another similar purchase.
I might bring my Xbox 360 with me (50-50 now), but at heart (and collection) am a PC gamer, so I don't see myself just buying the cheapest laptop, plus I might need to do some video editing on it...
Perhaps it is a bit early since new models will be out by then, plus I might not be able to afford it, but what the hell.
Input?
